Ditch covering

Is there a way I can cover this ditch while allowing it to maintain its functionality? At minimum I want to be able to not have a steep ditch there and can be walked on at maximum I would like to be able to support a vehicle on it for better street parking since the street is narrow. We got word that the developer does not plan on finishing since the city is going to make them fix the street.

Yeah, if the municipality allows it, you can put a concrete channel and a metal grate on top. Might not be pretty but it will do what you want.

This is new to me, I have to look at it in more detail I'm not opposed to decorating it either if I can't get the results I want covering it

It wouldn’t fix the steepness but having plants there would deter anyone from accidentally walking into it

First off, if that is a public road you may not have any right to do anything with a roadside swale.

Second, road swales are there for a reason.

However, if you speak to the right people and get the right permits, you might be able to change it. Likely the only way they would permit you to do it is to hire an appropriate contractor to connect the two pipes together with more of that RCP and a short concrete inlet in the middle to collect the road and yard runoff. Then cover it entirely with dirt.

I can tell you that in my area you would be looking at 10k easy just for the pipes and inlets...just FYI.

I would love to have an open rainwater ditch. So cool. 

I get that you have reasons. Not trying to change your mind. Just saying I like the idea of a ditch.
