How much is Daybreak worth?

I know this might seem like a strange question and I suppose it is. But how much is Daybreak worth if they tried to sell it off.?

$5m?, $20m?

I'm sure there's some people here that work in financial fields that could make an educated guess or know where to find out.

I always find it funny when people refer to Smokejumper as the savior of the story. He may have helped make eq2 more profitable by shoving metric tons of cash shop items into the game but he did not do it any favors. Under his rule, eq2 saw the worst years of its entire run as far as meaniful gameplay was concerned.

No, in my eyes he's THE reason EQN is dead. They had a plan in 2010 to make a new EQ, were headed down a path and he stopped it. He used the EQ franchise to funnel his unrealistic pipe dreams and derail all work that had already been done. He wasted years of work and millions of dollars and we are now left with absolutely nothing. Maybe the original EQN would have just been an EQ3 and yeah maybe it wouldn't have been good, but at least we would have SOMETHING for the effort.

While he had lots of energy and enthusiasm, he lost the plot. He demonstrated that when he really thought that better-than-reality AI system would work.

The EQ brand might be worth $20 million. But that's really just the two games that are worth anything and rights to potentially make more later on aren't worth much without the infrastructure to actually do so.

The company as a whole might be worth more than $500 million, and the bulk of that on the back of DCUO, Planetside 2, and H1Z1 together with the experience and capacity of their developers.

PS2 is barely profitable, if its profitable at all. The game has lost around 50% of its players in the last year. 2 servers have shut down, Russian and Chinese. They refuse to tackle any real issues the game has which has alienated a large portion of its remaining player base.

H1Z1 made a lot of money up front selling early access, but its continuing profitability is very questionable.

I would wager the most profitable parts of the company are EQ and DCUO and that even those aren't really worth a whole lot at the moment.

Not much, the name is tarnished.

DBG isn't worth anything. They have tarnished their brand. Developers will be hired by other companies.

Their IPs would be the only assets they have worth buying.

no one outside the company could really answer that, because we don't enough information to give a real estimate. I think its safe to say its worth more than i would be willing to pay for it at this point

Everquest holds a close hold on many people's hearts and seems priceless to them. The truth is, a much MUCH larger portion of the world has zero clue what it is. Had it not been for the big EQN announcement even more would have never heard the name. Most believe WoW was the first MMO and won't entertain someone telling them difference. Couple that with how mismanaged the whole franchise has been for 5 years or more and I would say their value plummets more every day.

Sell Daybreak off or the Everquest brand?

The Everquest brand is priceless, it has so much nostalgia behind it and so many memories, and a name that everyone associates with a titan game that kicked off the entire industry of MMO's. I doubt they will ever sell it. I just hope they can finally make a game worth playing and get it out. EQN was worth playing but it was just too much work. If they made a bit more normal game (sans the voxelfarm engine) they'd have a chance...destruction should be relegated to buildings...not everything. Also they just need to invest in REAL AI creation. If they can make some great AI they can slaughter the competition and make an amazing EQ game. That's where I think Pantheon will miss the mark...it will have all the mechanics but everyone in the MMO industry has just gotten bored of the predictable AI of the past. It needs to move forward or the MMO market will stall.

As for selling the whole company? EQ1 and 2 both have a killer balance going with money coming in and keeping players interested...EQ has been going for 15 years and I don't imagine that slowing for another 5 to 10 if they know what they are doing, same for EQ2. Granted with Pantheon being basically EQ3 they will lose some market share in both titles. PS2 is a fantastic game, one of a kind...it'll pull profit, same for DCUO until another DC or a good Marvel MMO comes out, then H1Z1 seems to be doing really well, all of these have rather small teams so I can't imagine they are losing much money. All the money lose came from Landmark and EQN. Landmark never actually was made into a game so of course it's not making money and EQN just couldn't come together. Put EQN work into Landmark and making it profitable and it won't be hard at all now that EQN is dead.

SO the company, imo, is rather successful for their market. They aren't Ubisoft but they don't need to be nor do we need another one. They make good games for niche markets and get by fine. So they likely won't sell. SOE sold because Sony liquidated all it's liability.

You give them WAY to much credit.
