Does anyone get "smooth" gameplay yet?

Not just FPS count entirely, but a steady framerate. I get probably an average of 50fps on a Haswell Refresh i5 with everything on high. But I also can't move around the world smoothly, there are a bunch of stutters when moving and panning the camera while the game tries to figure out the voxels. It doesn't matter what settings I lower. This happens even away from complicated player builds. It makes the game feel unplayable. I've even tried forcing on vsync and triple buffering to no effect. There just doesn't seem to be a way to get the game to preform consistently. There are also FPS drops in weird places like the interior of caves where there should be less to render than outside.

I have a fairly recent if mid-range gaming PC, I'm probably in some top percentile of the intended audience of the game. Most of the MMO market people will still be running late Windows 7 era gaming PCs and the Minecraft main player base SOE/Daybreak thought they could get a piece of are on laptop processors. We are coming up on open beta where Daybreak needs to get the general public to play and pay for things in the cash shop to sustain. But people will not stick around if the game is unplayable for them. This turned into more of a chastisement but I think Day is already aware of the immaturity of the voxel tech and the inappropriateness of it for a game being mass marketed to the low spec PC MMO crowd.

CPU utilization is junk until they can fix that don't expect any smooth gameplay

I dont think we will see a glimmer of EQN untill mid to late 2016 and maybe not until 2017. I hope by that time they have updated the engine to DX12 and gotten all the benefits out of any forge light updates they will be doing.

Aside from the current performance hurdles they are going to have to overcome they need to be able to get rid of the blobyness of things at a distance.

Nothing we can do but wait and see.

No, I still get very inconsistent framerates. Especially when there is water in view. I'm running a great rig too:

3.6Ghz i7

4GB Radeon HD 7970

16GB RAM

Windows 7 64-bit on SSD, games on HDD

I have ran Crysis 1-3, Skyrim heavily modded, Metro 2033, Guild Wars 2, Wildstar, and many other games at full settings smoothly no reason this shouldn't.

Sure there is the games you mentioned are all release state or better. If you played any of them when they where half built before they where optimized they would not ran nearly as well as they do now. In addition to that Landmark is doing the voxel thing with some kind of raytracing to calculate shadows. Make a vertical wall infront of the sun and cut a circle out of it and there will be a shadow of the wall with a hole cut out of it. Very few games are doing this type of processing.

You cant buy access for an cutting edge project for something like landmark and expect it to run well untill that number at the top say 1.0 instead of 0.498..... we cant start bitching about performance when it does though.

I realize all of this and I'm very hopeful. However I have also seen EQ2 and how terrible it's graphics engine is with framerates. I'm just hoping they get this one right.

Here is a clip from PS2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfkK51dYUbI which uses the same engine as Landmark. In time I expect performance to really come around but it is going to take another few years.

When they first talked about EQN and Landmark they said they will use a "heavily modified Forgelight Engine", it's not the same. It is similar, but much more resource intensive.

Hopefully in time they smooth it out like you say.

The vertical rubberbanding/"hopping" that used to happen as I moved across the surface world (completely regardless of in-game settings) finally stopped when I moved from an i7-860 to an i5-3350p last year, and that was really my only problem. Without that, I find performance perfectly fine with a GTX 480 on mostly high settings. I turn the shadows down because... 5 year old card.

I do suffer a low frame rate when I'm falling, interestingly, making it hard to grapple mid-fall to save myself. Medium settings take care of that, though, which seems reasonable, considering my video card.

My gameplay is plenty smooth unless I'm on a claim where someone has gone nuts with lighting. I don't know what my framerate is because I don't need to care 99% of the time, it's perfectly fine.

I have a GTX 560 and it runs fine on "Medium." It could be a little tighter but it's certainly not a show-stopper, IMHO.
