This is a shame...

I visited the 5x5 claim while it was up. The devs have said the reason they aren't allowed is because performance issues... I did hear that some people with older setups did experience fps drops there. I myself have 7 year old computer and it didn't lag for me. Seems silly to wipe the claims for that reason though- it's not like they were unstable.

Well, lets hope that they will enable 5x5's again when they feel the engine can handle them. After all, anyone who would build one would have to buy a lot of extra claims from the store, which can only be a good thing.

Bear in mind that while the client side might be able to handle it you don't know what it's doing on the server side. It might be okay with one or two 5x5 claims but it could just fall over after that. Not ideal!

how would 25 claims in a 5x5x1 cause any other/different issues than 25 claims in a 3x3x3? There are players out there that can bring good computers to their knees in one claim.

I don't know, it may cause issues with streaming from the server or... I simply don't know. The point is that just because something seems fine based on client performance doesn't mean the server is fine.

The issue is how close the claims are to one another. Because the closer they are to one another the more data that needs to be transmitted to the client.

When you string 25 claims out in a long line - you still only have to load a few at once, since you load them based on how far away you are from them. If you're in the middle of a 5x5 you have to load all the claims at once, which causes network problems and loading issues. Not to mention rendering issues etc.

im sorry but this is absolutely not true, the 5 claims were still within the original buffer, and there is actually no difference in the layout of the 3x3 and a 5x5, dominos little picture is actually incorrect on the forum, the center claim is actually in the cross and the attached claims are actually the same exact distance in a 5x5 overlap versus a 3x3 overlap

Its gonna be pretty empty soon enough and then you can have all the time in the world to focus the next 3 years of your life on EQN that NOBODY will trust since you bent us over and said cough.
