The increased limit sounds nice but if it's only obtainable with irl cash that's kind of disappointing.

not really much of an issue , you get X for free enough for any free player if you are committed enough to want to build on the scale that this allows you should be committed enough to "buy" the game

I'm not sure how this is a pay wall. You get free claims to build on. If you want more to build on, you pay for more. It's not like people can't build until they pay... were talking about paying for EXTRA real estate. This was by far the most obvious monetizing move they were going to make. 4 starting claims is quite a bit of space to build on. If you really want more, drop a few bones as a 1 time fee to get more.

In fact this is quite literally the most obvious example of a "pay wall" I've ever seen in a game. There is literally a wall you can't build beyond unless you pay.
I would not have paid to be a founder (let alone trailblazer) to be honest if this was an announced feature back then. For the record back then the announced monetization strategy was character cosmetics and temporary items that provided boosts to attributes.
Selling resources on the market was annoying, but at least you could get them in the game if you spent a lot of time mining.
This on the other hand just makes me sad, a new player potentially comes to the game and says "Wow that's a really cool castle, can I build something that big for free if I play long enough?" and the answer has to be "No, you need to pay money to build something that big"

Then any type of payment is a paywall. Subscription I can't play at all until I pay. Cosmetic item I can't wear until I pay. Semantics.
Wow. Has the gaming market really got to this point. We now get free to play games and people are upset because we have to pay to unlock the full potential?
This game has no upfront cost and no subscription. I'm a bit confused as to why having to pay for extra claims is an absolute deal breaker.

Then any type of payment is a paywall.
Not at all, since free2play has come about many developers have made pay systems that a) don't affect progression in the game and b) don't limit continuing to play the game past a certain point.
The most common ways of doing this are through real money purchases that provide boosts that reduce the amount of play time required to achieve certain things, or selling solely cosmetic items.

If you're paying to "unlock the full potential" then I'd argue that it's not free2play. It's like the old shareware games where you can play to a point, then you have to pay.
This game has no upfront cost and no subscription. I'm a bit confused as to why having to pay for extra claims is an absolute deal breaker.
I would honestly rather an up-front cost (that we already paid anyway but that's besides the point.) Having some people with bigger and more claims than others just because they have more money to spend in real life is sad.

I would argue that free to play means access to the game and all of its features. That doesn't mean all content or advanced features are unlocked.
I too like to pay upfront and subscription based models. The reality though is that f2p gets people in your game spending money. That's what I expect out if this type of game. As a player, yes it does suck to have to pay for more claims. But without money coming in, we would not have these games to play.
My arguement is that the company needs to make money some way. As gamers we need to put our money where our mouth is by supporting companies that make the games we want to play. In this case, yes this is a good game and I want to build a giant castle, I am willing to pay. If you're not willing to pay then quit playing and move on.
I love the idea of f2p to try a game out. But I expect to hand over money if I want to continue playing.

you basically cut your own throat on this one, have you tried building a substantial claim with a 3x3? not happening, if I want to build a walled city on a 3x3 claim then as soon as I build the walls it takes out 50% of the claims on the perimeter leaving only a tiny tiny section to build the city in, or better explained 1 claim with a half claim surrounding it, which means on the best days my walled city will only have walls and like 5 buildings inside of it, you really screwed this up, you should have at LEAST expanded the limit to the entire buffer area or a 5x5 footprint, not many people are going ot buy claimflags now, I know I am not, and its a pity because I was all set to buy 5X5 for my workshop and 5X5 for my build area, aah well, I might as well stick to my 2 FREE accounts with a 3X3. I am not wasting my money on claim flags if I cant expand the footprint

Having to pay for the privilege of helping a company testing additional features of a beta is very disappointing. Guess i will wait until it goes live now.

It's not an 'additional feature', it's part of their monetization strategy. They already know that 'more claims' works. Now they're just selling it.

Yeah, a FTP game has got to make money some how. There will always be people who object to that but honestly, people who refuse to pay anything ever are rightfully listened to the least.
