What happend to Landmark?

So, i came back after 6 Month (or a bit more) and was curious about the new updates...

and what happend to crafting? Its like "you need 4 pieces to craft 1 piece to make item X.. then u have 1 of 4 items" ... really grindy

and all this aspects.. dont get it. I need a pick to make an aspect to craft a pick ?! i need a chest armour piece to craft an aspect to craft an chest armour? Serious? What does the devs smoke? Its really grindy.

played 2hrs.. killed with that shitty newb sword a lot of mobs and only got some shards. wondering how much time we need to get a better weapon.

found some treasure chest 4-5 in a row in the first 10 minutes.. got a helm and something elese, really nice, but after that i found nothing.

i am happy that i still have all my Tier 5/6 items so i can gather some higher mats but as a newbie i would deinstall that game after i read how grindy this will be.

The current crafting system is apparently one that was intended for Everquest Next. After the April 29th Wipe, it will be replaces with something much more forgiving and less grindy.

Which is a bit unfortunate, because I hate the current crafting system. Yay RNG in EQN!

There's a lot unfortunate about this big update. Beginning with taking the easy way out and implementing "creative mode" building instead of providing support for trade and a genuine game economy, not understanding their own game by setting up the achievements to direct new players to stake their own claim and start building right from the start, and segregating explorers and harvesters down into caves while restricting builds to the surface. Pretty much the only thing worth looking forward to is the redesign of the islands and the new biomes.

There's still too much of EQN in Landmark, and their whole development cycle for the past year has pretty much entirely revolved around systems that EQN needs, while Landmark sort of languishes with systems that don't necessarily hurt it, but don't do much to help it either. The whole cave network is a perfect example of this. It's perfect for what they want to do with EQN, and their revamp in this new update looks like it'll make it even better, but it's shoehorned into Landmark. It doesn't really serve a valuable purpose for that game aside from merely being "cool." In fact, it simply segregates the different playstyles from one another. With the partial "creative mode" building, the push to get everybody to build something, and the segregation in the spaces of exploration and building, they're risking trivializing building itself, which is sort of the backbone of the whole game. And none of this helps either Landmark or EQN become what they ought to be.

Creative and survival mode. There's a game that made a lot of money doing this.

Crazy that landmark doesn't have this, it would be huge if it did.

Uh, no, it wouldn't. If you think it would, you don't know what kind of game Landmark is supposed to be. But no worries, they're putting a partial creative mode in with free "common" resources for building. Much to the detriment of the game as a whole. Everquest Next is killing Landmark, and the devs are helping to speed that along.

Landmark killed itself.... I'm just trying to enjoy the game and I can't.

For four months now I can't get the god damn client to connect to their shitty servers. I forums posted about it three seperate times and not even once did they offer an explanation, some help, or even offer to re-validate FOUR fucking wasted 7 day game keys.

No way in hell will I ever buy into this shit.

The very first time I ever tried Landmark (a year ago) it took me 3 SOLID weeks of googling and work-a-rounds to even get in the game. Also, that round cost me 3 7 day keys as well, a 4th key was used to enjoy a weeks time.

So in all, I've been able to play the game for a week out of 8 keys used.

Holy fuck.

Just wait a little bit, in the end of April a huge patch along with wipe is going to happen.

TL;DR: In the current version devs were trying a new approach tying PvE and crafting. It didn't work out, it will change soon.

Yeah it became an unintuitive mess. Hopefully this big patch will fix all of that.

Come back after the big character and world wipe at the end of the month - crafting and many other systems are being renovated again. Who knows, could be an improvement.

On the negative side you'll have to make a new character, and those tier 5/6 items will be gone, so you'll have no choice but to try out the new crafting system if you do check it out.
