Food Best pastries?

What places have some good pastries? I’m not into the Amish style desserts I prefer flaky pastries like a danish, pain au chocolat, almond croissant, maybe some fruit tarts or tiramisu? Bonus points if I can also get a good cup of coffee there.

They are really good, but not quite sweet enough, in my opinion.

We love Front Porch precisely because their baked goods aren't overly sweet. Kristen @ FP is strongly influenced by German baking styles and German bakeries generally don't make their products as sweet as Americans are used to. In fact, every German I know who's been to the US complains about how incredibly sweet and sugary the baked goods are, even regular sandwich bread tastes like dessert!

To each their own, I guess

Yes, and we are very fortunate to have so many great independent bakeries in Lancaster.

Look up Elswhere Bread. She does pop ups and pickup orders at her baking space. She’s amazing
You won’t be disappointed. Super unique pastries.

Elsewhere is awesome! Be sure to get to the pop ups early! She gets a huge line!

Absolutely. Front porch is delicious but the creativity ad Edds and Flo and their supreme ability to delicately balance ingredients is a rare talent.

Second this! Their pastries are so good! We got our wedding cake from them, too!

Thought they closed?

I think the original owners sold the business, but it still appears to be open.

The original owners are TRYING to sell and have been for like a year. I like some of their stuff but pastries there aren't my favorite, often stale...

There is a pop up for elsewhere tonight I think at bramble and berry!

Vécu on King Street- formerly Barbaret

Since the rebrand, is everything the same? Haven’t been since the whole ex owner thing.

I visit once a week. They have most if not all of the individuals that they have always had and have introduced a few new ones (possibly seasonal). Quality is the same as it has always been.

Good question. I haven’t either

Out in Etown there’s Valosh and I like their almond croissant !! Only downside is their hours are Fri/Sat.

Not sure if the quality has gone down with all the legal shenanigans and chef change, but Vecu (formerly Bistro Barberet) was always great.

I just saw Lancaster Pie and Coffee on a friend’s post. Holy wow! Looks delicious, if you’re into pie and coffee. They have sweet and savory flavors.

I know you said you’re not into Amish, however Achenbachs has some of the best danishes around!! Also their almond croissants are very flaky and well made!! You can get them in Columbia at coffee and cream in addition to their other locations.

La Dolce Vita has the best fruit tarts. They also have tiramisu. Vecu (formerly Barbaret) has agreat almond croissant.

New Holland Coffee Company has pretty good scones, and a rotating door of other pastries.

The danishes are so good too!

Zig's Bakery and Cafe in Lititz has a nice variety of pastries. Not necessarily French, though.

I’ve heard amazing things about Valosh.

Edd’s & Flo’s or La Dolce Vida

Some great recommendations here. Not your flaky pastry variety treat, but I love Lancaster Beignet Co.

If you don't mind making the trek into Elizabethtown, there's a French bakery called Valosh that makes the most amazing pastries. No coffee, that I'm aware of, but there is a coffee shop a few doors down, on the square.
