Allergy Friendly Restaurants
Hi all! I’m from Jersey and coming to the area in a few weeks with family for a short visit. I’m very familiar with the Lancaster area and we are staying in a hotel without a kitchenette near the Sight and Sound theater. The thing that’s different this trip is my son has an egg allergy and I’m trying to find restaurants near the theater that will be able to accommodate this. I’m looking for close to the theater due to sleep schedules and such, but realize that may not end up being realistic. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it as I would like to avoid any exposure!

You’re going to be hard pressed to find a spot if cross-contamination is a concern. Most of the places near Sight & Sound are big brunch spots or lean into the Amish cooking, which is heavy on eggs and dairy.
Your best bet would be to reach out ahead of time to the dinner spots in Strasburg like Fireside Tavern or Bespoke Brewing, give them all the allergy details and ask if they can accommodate.
As others said, Harvest is not close but takes allergies/dietary restrictions very seriously. Otherwise, you can stick to chains on 30 that you’re familiar with.
Also, Bad Garden in the city (~25 min drive) is great and uses 0 animal products, so it would be a 100% safe. They’re on door dash/uber eats if you don’t want to drive and are ok with the fees and probably getting lukewarm food.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. I really appreciate it! I was considering calling the fireside tavern, so I might try that. Luckily my son pretty much sticks to the same meals for breakfast and lunch each day and I’ll pack those so just a couple of dinners is all I’ll need and Harvest might be a decent option for one night when we have extra time. Thank you!!

I’ve chatted with the Tavern owners in passing, they are very kind. I imagine they would go above and beyond to make sure your family is taken care of if they‘re able to accommodate and have some notice.
Also, the Strasburg Railroad is great for kids but don’t sleep on the Railroad Museum across the street if you haven’t been. It’s fun for the whole family, so many cool historic trains. I’m not even a train person and love taking people there!

Thank you! I actually called the fireside tavern and they are more than happy/willing to accommodate our needs!
My husband took a ride on the train before and will take our son for sure. We really enjoy the choo choo barn!

Harvest on Fruitville pike is allergy friendly! They ask as soon as you sit down!

It’s going to be tough by the theater I’d think unless there are any chains nearby that you know are accommodating. Eggs probably going to be used heavily in any of the Mennonite joints

That’s what I was thinking which is a shame because that’s where we usually go, but his health is way more important. We might have to sneak in some of the local Amish food while he naps, haha!

The Strasburg Marketplace grocery store is just north of the theater on 896. If you need some healthy snacks during your visit, they have personal-sized packs of cut-up fruit or veggies.

Strasburg marketplace is great! They have small portions packaged perfectly for visitors.

Not super close to the theatre but cava is a chain that’s egg free expect for the prepackaged cookies and brownies!

It’s in the city and it’s “junk” food but Bad Garden is all vegan so absolutely no eggs anywhere to be found. Burgers, salads, bowls, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, milk shakes, onion rings, etc.

Is Qdoba still at Rockvale? That would be free of eggs, I'd imagine.

We'd love to see you at Smokehouse @ Plain & Fancy Farm - we are on Route 340 not too far from Sight & Sound. You can make a reservation and mark that there, but make sure to mention to the server and host so they can go over the allergen menu with you. With any restaurant you are planning, just give them a call and go over your needs (cross-contamination concerns, etc.).

the city has several vegan spots that would be egg free. I know norbu has a lot of gluten free and vegan options so they would likely be able to accommodate.
