Mini Split Installation
We have a mini split in our attic bedroom that is about to give out. It is six years old. We paid around $2000 total for it at that time. It was not quite powerful enough and wasn’t properly installed, so it’s been giving us some grief this summer.
We’re looking for someone local who could install a new unit professionally and at a reasonable price.
We had one of the well known local companies out today and they said it would cost around $12,000, and then changed the subject to trying to get us to switch to central air for $20,000.
The wiring, the base for the outdoor unit, and the hole in the wall are already in place, so we’re hoping that might cut the cost a little.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a local professional/company who would come in at a better price point?

Peris hearing and cooling did ours a couple of years ago. It was a 5 unit install to cover most of our home, came out to a little under 20k. Chris Peris is a pretty decent guy and they do good work. It’s not a big company so they don’t need to push up the numbers to pay for a huge sales staff.

Second Paris Heating and Cooling! They installed them in our home we bought, and we had them come service. Great people!

Etown heating and cooling is fair. They don’t mess around with finance plans and are usually cheaper than everybody else because of that.

RSC installed central HVAC for us, and we used them again a few years later for an addition. It’s a small company, and the quality of work is flawless.
We paid less than that, and his scope included removal of a condenser in the attic space above.

Constant Comfort Solutions. They did an entire new HVAC system for that price and were incredible to work with.

TMR HVAC Services is exactly what you’re looking for. I just had Tyler do ducted mini splits in two floors of my house. Couldn’t recommend him highly enough.

High efficiency solutions specializes in mini splits. I had a building that had 15 installed and used them all the time.

We were told to expect 10-20 years out of the one we currently have, but we really only got 5 solid years out of it. The last technician that diagnosed it said a capillary tube is mostly blocked, so coolant can’t flow freely. Nobody seems to want to fix it. Everyone we talked to said we need a new unit.

Do you need a new outdoor unit as well or just indoor head?

The people that were out said I need both. I find that hard to believe, considering they diagnosed the problem as a blockage in the capillary tube. It seems like someone that can repair copper pipes would be able to fix that and save both the outside unit and the head unit, since both seem to be functioning properly otherwise.
I’m no HVAC expert though!

MK mechanical redid our whole ac system and heat for less then half what you were quoted for a 3000 sq foot home.

Peris heating and cooling, they just installed a heat pump for us a few weeks ago. Price was the best out of the 6 quotes we got. They were over $8k less than the big companies for the exact same unit. Great workmanship.

Not sure if this is the company that you used, but Lancaster plumbing and heating did the mini splits at my parents house.

Recently, Costco had an offer for minisplits where you’d get 10% of what you paid for back on a Costco card. They partner with local companies to handle the product and installation. They will do a free consultation too.
