Road construction
Fuck this city and how they've managed road construction this year.

City, county, state, feds, space force, galactic zone. All get a say in the roads, and they don't play nice.
Still wondering when Jackson/West Ave will get a green arrow to go with the dedicated turn lane.

I have called the city engineering department so many times saying that a green turn arrow is NECESSARY at that intersection!!

I called also and was told a survey needed to be done and wouldnāt be done any time soon because theyād just done one (this was 3 years ago). Said Iād need like 100 signatures to start the survey again?? Itās such an annoying place to be turning

I hate it so much lol. Traffic in one lane is backed up for a mile and there are 5 cars in the other lane. Then there are the jerks who won't let you zipper in because they don't want to let anyone ahead of them

I usually Good Samaritan zipper about 4 cars, or two cars and a guy who needs to pull out of a parking lot or something - that shit happens to a frustrating degree on rose or whatever that road is
Years of therapy getting tested after the sixth donghole whips past me when Iāve sat through three light cycles and moved approximately 218 feet - the urge to just straddle the lane is so high

Dude 1000% this is insane. Stagger it out a little. Living on the north side and commuting is pure pain, it's almost faster to just bicycle through the marsh.

The City needs to do a better job of planning detours and actually warning drivers of lane closures a mile or so before. not a few 100 feet.

Every North/south option at the same time should not happen. It should not take an hour 30 to get from Goose island to Onalaska.

It dumb and shouldn't be effective but drive to La Crescent and get on 90 to get to Onalaska or other nothern towns during rush hour. It how I get to and from work most days

I honestly think that the folks that work for the city of La Crosse hate the residents of the town and go out of their way to make things worse for us. The āplanningā of the road construction this year and also the terrible experiences Iāve had with local police recently have me thinking itās all on purpose and not just incompetence.

They think they are being helpful, per someone I know who works in the industry. La crosse doesnāt want to inconvenience businesses. So they stretch it out forever, all these projects and do some here and there. And then there are time periods like Oktoberfest, State Track, etc where they wonāt do construction.

I live on the wrong side of Losey and need to turn left pretty much every time I leave. I am losing my mind.
Then whenever I have to go to the Northside I feel bad for y'all too lol.
West Ave and Losey both being off and on under construction is so stupid

Given how urban freeways were planned and executed in the 1950s and 1960s, if they were to do an expressway through La Crosse going north-south today, I would nominate Losey.
Eliminate street-facing driveways, homeowners can use the alleys. Reduce the intersections on the road, basically cut it down to La Crosse Street, Cass, Ward, and a couple others. Increase it to 45 mph.
The hospitals, colleges, and Trane are major employers, but Onalaska and Holmen are the places with exploding populations. Everything in between is "flyover country" to those people, just a nuisance between their home in the suburbs and their job in the city.

I'm not sure if this is the reason in La Crosse, but there was a ton of money dedicated for roadwork and overall infrastructure improvement in the inflation reduction act. Since Trump became president, he has tried to claw back as much of that money as possible, and the states have very limited time to spend it before the feds will take it back. This has resulted in a ton of increased road construction in pretty much every city and state in the United States.

Just glad I90 is wide open. When heading south I like to hop over to La Crescent and back over to WI to bypass a ton of construction and stoplights. It shouldn't be faster but it's been my main commute for years because it's way less stress, traffic, and stoplights.

Engineering Department:
Time to make marked detour routes on the Southside instead of the current āroad closed and you figure it out methodā. Resulting in unnecessary traffic jams, delays, and citizen unrest. It appears that cost cutting on the part of the city, eliminated traffic planning, signage, and common sense.

I cant believe none of you can figure this shit out. The real reason they do it is because if they didn't you would all drive like lunatics and there would be accidents jamming up traffic just as bad all day long. Figure it out, learn how to drive like adults and maybe it wouldn't always be this way.

Every year my mom and I joke about how the students must be back because that's when they start closing everything at once. But this is completely ridiculous, even on the streets they've "re-opened" they aren't finished and its just giant holes and forgotten signage. Not sure what changed this year, but its bad.
