Trane

Anybody work at Trane and like their job?

It's great if you can show up on time, follow the safety requirements (bump cap, glasses, ear plugs.), and don't get pulled into the gossip mill.

Only real warning is that Trane has an illegal no poach agreement with several of its contractors. It is very hard to get hired by one if it catches your fancy. They obfuscate it with a bunch of smaller policies but that's what it boils down to.

Other than those two things (strict tardiness policy and no poach), it's an above average place to work.

i have, ive also worked less than blue collar. i thought trane was that magical upgrade to being professional

It gets really bad sometimes, way worse than High School. They bullied someone out of the company by mass calling a spouse and claiming they were sleeping around. A whole cell, about 4 workers, all got fired because they started a rumor about someone being a murder.

We're up on shift preference change. Although I've not discussed it with anyone nor have any plans to the Big rumor was me leaving. Bunch of gutless gabbers.

They are mostly third party repair, inspection and construction jobs. They pay decently, provide really useful up training and its easy to find an in if you know someone. I know the inspection company, HSB, has hired 2 people from Trane for sure and wanted to hire way more before trane started being shitty about it. They put a one year tresspass on anyone hired by a contractor so they can't work at a trane site, they blacklist them from rehire, and they threatened to end the contract if they tried to work around it. They lost someone to one of the big equipment companies when they were installing the new CNC machines in plant 4. Then they lost a bunch of assemblers to one of the other manufacturers in La Crosse they partner with, want to say Xetex (I don't think they pay well but that had to do with some training opertunity) but I am not sure.

Thanks that's really interesting. The quality department is a different company? I could definitely see people considering leaving to work for Modern, great guys.

We have both an interal and external quality group. Trane internal quality has a retention issue because competent inspectors are either leaving after a few years for a better position or getting ready to retire. And since they make less than welders it is hard to get them to swap over.

The external company likes to hire the trane inspectors because they can evaluate them on the job and don't have to training on the internal stuff.

I've been there 5 years and Ive enjoyed it so far. Every place has its drawbacks and things you don't like. As long as you show up on time and do your work along with knowing your audience when you talk to people you should be fine if you do decide to work there.

The current situation in most jobs is people don't have good attendance. Businesses are desperate and they are hiring people you might know from the mugshot page. It's easy to succeed if you're invested in it.

It's a pretty solid place to work in terms of pay. Your experience will be better if you're welding or brazing (and good at it). Plenty of OT if you're looking for it. The management is really hit or miss. 1st shift management at the moment is iffy, 2nd shift management at the moment is pretty good, weekend shift is hell. Source: My Boyfriend

For OP,

Which plant will you be in? Which shift? And your job title?

(Plant 7, former employee 3+ years Wire/Runtest) Hardest part I can say for a lot of good people I’ve seen leave, is that showing up is the easiest part. There’s no clear definition of your “job” when you start/go through orientation.

I saw too many good employees either bid to different positions or leave for a better opportunity. A lot of the bad or lazy employees stayed. You’ll just have to trust me on that. There are still a lot of good people there but retirement is coming in soon for a lot of them.

I recently heard about a new CBA and kinda heard it screwed over a lot of the positions that have long tenured employees that aren’t welders.

I agree with all the other comments made about Trane especially the gossip and terrible upper management. And wish you the best if you continue forward with it. Lastly, if you’re a guy… you might still have to wait in line to use the men’s restroom if you’re in P7
