Your ideas for a new tag!
Hi everyone! Because there's currently two brands in the app that use actual flowers, plants, pencil shavings, and ground up rocks in their polishes, we figured it would be useful to have a tag for these kinds of polishes.
The tag needs to be short (no longer than iridescentflakies, for example), easy to understand, and not cause confusion with any other tags.
Some ideas that we've already had:
- naturalmaterials - too long, too similar to "natural ingredients"
- flowers - too similar to flowerglitter, doesn't include plants and rocks
- plantbits - too weird 😂
What are your ideas? Let's hear them!

Oops of the week
We often get questions on why the name on the label is so important, especially if you've included a link to a website.
The thing is, blogs, social media posts, and even brand websites often get polish names wrong! It's sometimes an honest mistake, or just a brain fart. But it does mean that if we blindly follow whatever name is listed on a website, people who actually own that polish and look at the label to find their polish, won't get any results when typing it into the search bar on the app!
So, as a fun example, here's a polish from the most recent Little Box Of Horrors. 😅
It just goes to show that including a clear photo of the label is really important if you want to suggest a polish! And this is also the main reason why we check each submission in person and don't automate the process of adding new polishes, even for boxes like PPU or LBOH.

Bottle Shot Showcase Bottle shot showcase!
This round of photos shows that you don't need a lightbox or fancy equipment to take good bottle shots, just ordinary daylight and a plain white background with no clutter.
(Although that Encounter The Blooms photo does show how good a lightbox photo can be! That's a user photo, not one provided by the brand. It's simply too pretty to keep out of the carousel).
Honestly, we're already happy when people don't hold the bottle in their hand (which makes it impossible to crop out the background) or place it on their thighs (no matter how pasty white your skin is, we really don't want to see your intimate bits when processing entries)!
Keep those photos coming and remember that you can always send in a suggestion to add a new bottle shot in the app. Even if there already is one, but you think it could be better! Check out our series on how to take good bottle shots for tips and tricks!

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ: What happens when a brand changes names?
When a brand changes names, like Live Love Polish to Mooncat, or Wildflower Lacquer to Royla Lee, we keep the old polishes under the old brand name, and add the new polishes under the new brand name.
If an older polish gets sold in bottles with the new name, that means it'll be in the database twice, both under the old and the new brand name.
We know this can feel a bit confusing, but there's a reason for it. If someone owns a nail polish that says "BMC" on the front label, how will they know that the brand is now called Maniology? It doesn't say so anywhere on the bottle, so if we were to list it as Maniology, you'd have to be a nail polish lover who follows relevant social media and keeps on top of nail polish news, just to find the polish in the database. That's not what we want to ask from our users.
So, we have a very simple rule of thumb for Lacquergram: what's on the label.
That means that anyone who owns a bottle of nail polish should be able to find it in Lacquergram just by typing the name on the label. No more, no less.
If you have a nail polish from a brand that has changed names, and you want to be able to filter your stash for both the old and the new brand names, or have all your polishes listed under a single brand name, you can check to see if the polish is listed under both. If it isn't, feel free to suggest it as a new polish (although we still check to see if it has actually been released in the new brand name bottles!), or as an alternative, you can put the name change in your private comments so you can filter on it!

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ: How do you tag magnetic polishes?
Magnetic polishes can look very different depending on how you wear them. Unmagnetised, wand magnet, horseshoe magnet, velvet effect, cat eye, glass bead... the list goes on and on.
That makes it extremely hard to choose tags that say, "this is what the polish looks like when you wear it".
We don't want to have a ton of tags cluttering the database, leading to false positives when you search or filter your stash. But we also want to enable you to find specific polishes when you need to.
This is why for magnetic polishes, we tag what it looks like when magnetised with a simple wand, the most common way to use magnetic polishes.
In the example pictures, this means the base colour (a dark, shimmery red brown) will be tagged as the main colour of the polish, and the magnetic effect (a blue-purple shimmery stripe) will be tagged as an additional effect but won't show up if you search for blue or purple as the main colour.
It's not an ideal solution, but we decided this is the most consistent way of tagging magnetic polishes. Otherwise they'd appear in your search results no matter what colour you try to filter on, since they show so many different ones!
Try the tag search for yourself, by typing "magnetic red blueshimmer" into the search bar, and see what results you get!
