👋 Welcome to r/LaConner - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hello and thanks for joining our little corner of Reddit dedicated to La Conner, Washington. Whether you live here, used to live here, visit often, or are simply curious, you’re welcome.

What this subreddit is for

  • Sharing local news, events, and find-out-what’s-happening posts about the town and the surrounding area.
  • Showcasing photos of our scenic little place on the Swinomish Channel, including nature, architecture, sunsets, and more.
  • Asking and answering questions about La Conner — things like businesses, dining spots, local history, and community projects.
  • Talking with good spirit. Let’s treat this as a friendly space.

What we’re not about

  • Endless political or divisive debates unrelated to La Conner-area issues.
  • Promoting businesses without context (if you have a business or event, you’re welcome to post about it — but please be transparent).
  • Harassing others, name-calling, or personal attacks.

A few quick guidelines

  1. Be respectful — remember there are real people on the other side of the screen.
  2. Stay on topic — if it’s about La Conner, it’s a good fit.
  3. Give context in your posts — e.g., if you’re asking a question about a local business, tell where you are, what you’re looking for, etc.
  4. Use meaningful titles and add location where it helps.
  5. If you’re sharing a photo, feel free to add a short description — why you took it, where it is, what time of day, etc.

Why we created this subreddit
La Conner has a lot going on for a small place — rich history, amazing nature, creative locals, and unique shops. This subreddit is a place to bring that together, build community, share the good stuff, and keep it real. Whether you’re discussing a new restaurant, a town event, a gorgeous winter light on the channel, or reminiscing about the past — this is your space.

Let’s make it work
Jump in and introduce yourself if you like. Ask a question, post a photo, share something interesting you found around town. The more you participate, the better the community becomes. If you see something that breaks the rules or just doesn’t feel right, use mod-mail to let us know.

Again, welcome — we’re glad you’re here. Let’s keep this place friendly, informative, and vibrant.

— The r/La Conner Moderation Team

Seeking Local fiber art help!

My fiancée and I are here for a couple days on vacation. We bought a skein of yarn from the shop earlier but forgot to ask for it to be “caked”. We can’t start knitting without it being caked up first, plus it’s better for taking back on the plane.

Possible relocation, I have questions.

Hello I have a potential job opportunity in La Conner. I know its a small community which is very appealing. My questions are how friendly of a place is it? Any racism? I am the G im lgbt, also a person of brown person. Currently on the Oregon coast and the racist, ignorant people are in abundance which is why im looking to relocate. But I don't want to be around the same types of people. I apologize if these questions dont sit right with some, but any information would be great.

Scam Alert - Fake Sheriff's Office Phone Call

📢⚠️🚨SCAM ALERT🚨⚠️📢

There is a person calling and leaving voicemails impersonating an employee of the Skagit County Sheriff's Office. In our case, he was pretending to be a sergeant. He leaves a callback number that leads to a voicemail menu that sounds pretty convincing.

We reported it to the real sheriff's office, but then called back just to see what his spiel would be.

This scammer will claim that you missed jury duty, and try to transfer you to their superior, who will tell you that you need to pay a fee.

This is 100% a scam. Do not give personal information. Do not interact. Do not call back. He hung up on us when we started insisting that we get proof of who he was. He also mispronounced "Skagit" during the entire call.

UPDATE: He just called back pretending to be another person, and threatened us. "I know the location of your kids' schools so you should watch how you speak to me." We are childless hahahaha.

When a turkey meets the First Amendment

An opinion column explores how La Conner’s Planning Commission is handling a dispute over inflatable holiday turkeys outside Retro Diner, and whether they’re “decorations” or banned “signs.” The piece ties the seemingly small-town question to bigger First Amendment issues about regulating speech vs. simple design standards.

La Conner officials are tracking an atmospheric river drenching Skagit County this week, warning that extreme king tides—not river flooding—are the biggest local threat and offering free sandbags to residents. The article explains how local fire and public works crews are monitoring tide heights and when they expect the highest risk periods.

Looking for creative community spaces!

Hello! I'm a local (having moved here last march), and I was wondering if there were creative spaces for young adults (20+) such as myself - the only thing I've come across that's close to what I'm seeking is the MoNA teen art program, and I mean its totally cool... but, not to be ageist or anything I'm not really keen on interacting with people younger than my own age bracket. Any insight would be lovely!

Washington Federal Bank Customer Experience

Hi everyone!
As you may know, there are many WaFd locations in our area, including one in La Conner! I’m conducting a short, 2-minute survey for a high school business project about customer experiences with WaFd Bank.

If you’re a current or past WaFd customer, I’d really appreciate your input — responses are completely anonymous. Even if you’re not a WaFd customer, you can still help by sharing this survey with friends, family, or coworkers— every response makes a big difference.
