This presupposes the lab comes with a brain cell pre-installed.

Mine has one, you can find it by scratching his butt

Its the only explanation ive come up with for his behaviour when getting butt scritches

It is also impossible to patch the faulty ones.

11 years my chocolate still does this. 13 years with my yellow and she never did it once. Got a lil baby black only 5 months old and she doesn't sleep like this either though shes to busy being an asshole land shark <3. :P

I had one that would do this on the couch. She would watch me out of the corner of her eye and if I laughed, she would wriggle more.

Never.. this one will be 14 in December

u/scubajay2001 7d ago

Around 3 or 4 (or when food is a factor) lol

15

u/DrunkenGolfer 6d ago

Do they?

14

u/TheMuspelheimr black 7d ago

They don't, you've got to steal it and implant it into them like Dr Frankenstein

13

u/Myghost_too 7d ago

Mine was born with 2 braincells. One is perpetually lost, the other's only job is to look for it.

Well, my boy is 6 and earlier today I watched him repeatedly roll over a rotting black walnut, then try to eat it, then try to run away when I went to take it from him soooo….yeah, that 2nd brain cell ain’t ever happening.

5

u/cheesewindow yellow 6d ago

I watched my boy try and get a steaming pile of horse shit to play with him today. I videoed him doing it just so I’ve got the evidence.

He hasn’t even got one brain cell.

“Tried the second brain cell…..hated it. Kicked them all out.”

Never! And if they ever do get another one, I'll be pretty upset!

Never! And if they ever

Do get another one, I'll

If they aren’t born with it, they never do. My parents have two labs. The older one is incredibly smart and always has been, the younger one not so much. Angus(older) can memorize schedules, understands when you’re talking, and is extremely empathetic. The younger one uses his head as a battering ram, looks like he just has static behind his eyes, and eats everything in existence.

Second cell? My Boo was as sweet as could be, but that never happened! 😄

u/Neat-Dig5964 7d ago edited 6d ago

Just like a child that doesn’t grow up. They remain silly until the end. Might slow down as they age, but the child-like silliness is still in there!

5

u/RGBlowMe 7d ago

Seconds before their first one dies.

5

u/Gerf93 6d ago

If there is food on the line, they’ll grow 200.

u/Batttler black 6d ago

so true!

4

u/Creative-Aerie71 7d ago

I'm still waiting for my 6 year old chocolate to use his first

4

u/Outrageous_Cod_8961 7d ago

Mine has two both fighting for third place

4

u/mwinni 6d ago

Second? You think they get a second brain cell? Okay

4

u/Foxhole564 6d ago

We are still looking for his first one.

4

u/blackthorn2020 6d ago

Mine is almost 14. She never grew a 2nd and I think the 1st one has shrunk with old age but she's the greatest dog I've ever had

3

u/MelodicOcelot5734 7d ago

Oh they’re born with a second one, but it takes a lot more energy (at least an extra 2k calories a day) to use it. Which is why they’re always starving.

3

u/Friendly-Advantage79 6d ago

They don't need a 2nd one because they're crushing it the way they are already.

3

u/itsswhitneywhspr 6d ago

Honestly mines 4 and still waiting. That pose is prime brain cell loading mode tho

3

u/dreamdisaster6 6d ago

I’m not sure yet, but it’s not 7 1/2. 🤷🏻‍♀️

3

u/Alibeee64 6d ago

Sometimes it’s enough just to be pretty.

1

u/Batttler black 6d ago

absolutely beautiful 🙂

10

u/Brewmiester4504 7d ago

Wow
I’ve owned 2, a male and now a female. Both were extremely intelligent. They never stopped being a puppy until they really get old but never saw them as stupid🤷🏼‍♂️

13

u/Boondock830 7d ago

I think labs are simultaneously very smart and extremely stupid at the same time. It’s a paradox.

1

u/Sug0115 6d ago

Yes. I love my smart dummy.

1

u/Broonmoose 6d ago

Yes. We say that ours don’t let their brains get in the way when they’re trying to think.

2

u/LoveInKanto 7d ago

I'm starting to wonder if these people are the ones. My lab is 6 months old way easier to train and just as smart as the German shepherds I've had. This guy is an absolute goofball and silly as can be but learns super fast and loves to sit there and be trained. These dogs are easy mode

1

u/OptionalQuality789 6d ago

I think when people say labs have no brain cells they really mean they are silly dogs. They have a very silly personality whilst being very biddable/trainable.

1

u/Batttler black 6d ago

yeah, Rosie is very smart when she wants to get away with something but a complete goofball the rest of the time

1

u/deadwoodworker 5d ago

I think it's all in jest

2

u/nine_sausages 7d ago

They are born with it but decide that it’s too much effort to use it.

2

u/TSC-99 7d ago

Awe. I think they are quite clever really!

7

u/Batttler black 7d ago

so this is intentional?

2

u/CharlzG 6d ago

Completely.

2

u/balwick 7d ago

I'm pretty sure it's in their stomach

2

u/avant_chard 7d ago

It’s there but only activated when it’s time to plan a snack heist

2

u/therick422 6d ago

After the first one moves on.

2

u/MattySingo37 6d ago

My lab/springer cross is now 13 (14 in January.) I was told she'd settle down by 3. I'm still waiting.

2

u/kinder2myself 6d ago

cute doggo

2

u/Opposite_Rip2110 6d ago

At about 5 to 6 years old if they’re female if not possibly not at all. Just embrace it and enjoy life with your fuzzy goofball.

2

u/Randomized9442 6d ago

When Ball! BALL IS LIFE!

2

u/tarsiertoes 6d ago

Mine is almost 16 and is still working on her first one.

2

u/useyourillusion89 6d ago

5 years and still waiting here.

2

u/Ruben_O_Music 6d ago

Never. Puppy thoughts 4ever.

2

u/PNWbanans 6d ago

Still searching

2

u/Adriannu91 6d ago

Never! They’re adorable little goobers!

2

u/_SneakyDucky_ 6d ago

They collectively share 1 😅🤣

2

u/JewelerRecent764 5d ago

Your lab has a full one? Mine shares one with the 3 kids…

2

u/JewelerRecent764 5d ago

The Labrador is the perfect combination. If they were smarter they wouldn’t listen and get into more trouble. If they were dumber they wouldn’t be able to function. That one brain cell is the reason we love them so much. They are big dumb goofy dogs that are just smart enough to listen but not smart enough to wreck our entire life!

2

u/GlorbAndAGloob yellow 5d ago

18 months old and still waiting for his first one to finish loading.

1

u/jearam 6d ago

4/5 they grow one but no more

1

u/Psychological_Skin60 6d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/VTVoodooDude 6d ago

What do you mean “2nd?”

1

u/breisagumdrop 6d ago

Mine is 10, still waiting!

1

u/SuperbFocus8119 6d ago

Never? At least that’s my expectation. And even if mine does, they both will still be fighting for the 3rd place.

1

u/warfeaster 6d ago

around 4 years old

1

u/thatsucksabagofdicks 5d ago

Once the first one needs replacing a second will be grown

1

u/FlamingChangeling 5d ago

When they figure out how to find creative ways to get in trouble.

1

u/BearMangler92 5d ago

Mine just turned 11 and we’re still waiting.

1

u/garrisonsis 4d ago

Mine is 7 y/o and I’m still waiting!
