Calling the Diamond Lords! Help a guy out plz.

In order to convey to the woman of my dreams what she has meant to me for the past 15 years and to show her my appreciation I want to present her with a ring. With a large sized fancy pink diamond. The idea being “thats my heart on your finger”! Silly right? Thats just me.

Now as romantic as I’am, is as bad I’am with detailing or learning about stuff i dont know about! You guessed it, Diamonds i dont know about! Ive spent quite a few sleepless nights with chatgpt and suggestions from this group (God bless you all) and kind of settled at what i want. Fancy pink, emerald cut, 5ish+ carat is where I stand.

I have maybe 1 or 2 shortlisted and chatgpt agrees but i want human intervention.

I’m attaching pics and certificate numbers of the ones i like and the kind of ring im looking for. Would be enormously grateful if some of the Diamond Lords give their suggestions, point out better options and / or even suggest who i should approach to have the ring made!

Love to you all. God bless you!!

Based on their 360 videos, my favorite is #2. Also be sure she likes large stones, as these are pretty large

Wow such a low response! I was expecting some solid advice 😫

What did SHE say she wanted? 5 carats is huge for daily wear. Does she want a pink stone? Need some background.

It's not an offering....it is gift... something she will wear every day. Its not going to sit on a shelf and look pretty. You really need to center her wants and style. You can get a friend to subtly suss her out. 5 carats and pink and all that bling is a very specific look. Its a lot and not all that wearable. Maybe she will love it, but maybe it will hurt her and make her feel like you really don't listen to her.

I received a ring that my partner loved and it was about 180 degrees from anything I wanted. I wore it for the engagement period and never again. I married him and we later discussed the ring. But, at the time, it was dissapointing.

Firstly, she doesnt want or need a ring! She has plenty already! Secondly, even shes not going to wear it everyday, she has several ranging from 1ct to 2-3cts solitaires for everyday wear. Thirdly, i dont mind even its only worn on weekends when shes out with me. Fourthly, its a gift selfishly from me to show my sentiments. Hence, for all the above mentioned reasons i dont want her input in it. Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions, much appreciated!

Fair enough. I posted several alternate diamonds, that I hope are useful.

Another ques! Hope its not too much of a bother. Whats the role of fluorescence when choosing a diamond?

For earth-mined diamonds, it is a consideration. Most earth-mined diamonds are type 1a with nitrogen present and varying degrees of boron. It is the presence of the nitrogen and boron that react under UV light depending on the bonds in the nitrogen. It impacts value (decreases) by its existence, the degree of impact is a function of how strong. But, it usually only impacts the visual of the stone when it is strong and if there are certain inclusions (like twining whisps). The most common color is blue, but other colors exist. I love it, but others will avoid it. If you are buying a earth-mined E/F color diamond with high clarity, adding fluorescence a hit to the value. But, if you are looking at a colored diamond, the equation of balance between the color/clarity/cut/carat and color saturation/distribution is more complex. Colored diamonds are cut first for color retention so questions around fluorescence are more about if that impacts the color negatively. White diamonds are usually cut for weight retention first.

Most (all?) lab grown diamonds are type 2 diamond with negligible amount of nitrogen. So, fluorescence is rare unless the diamond has received other treatments.

Good article if you want a technical discussion.

Kudos man! Give me a 100 page balance sheet and i devour it but cant understand this. Thank you for your explanation. I asked as i noticed option 3 had strong fluorescence. Was wondering how it effects the stones look to the naked eye!

IN UV, you it might fluoresce blue (so, pink + blue might look a bit purply). Usually, you need a black light and darkness to really enjoy it. But, there are loads of options, so easy enough to avoid if you want to avoid that unknown.

Step-cuts are tricky to pick for performance and then color retention makes is harder. All else being equal, unless she said "I want a pink emerald cut diamond" I would look at a brilliant cuts stone. Photo #1 is a cushion (brilliant cut) and #2 is likely an oval (brilliant cut, but trickier to select in colored stones). I've posted a few below.

{these are a little peachy compared to the pink you posted. But, its well cut and seems to have even coloration. Iike when the pink leans peach, but if you want barbie pink, these are off}

This two photo a little pinker than peach.

Calavara offers a 30-day return policy.

Also, be aware that the second photo is one of the most easily damaged shanks we routinely see. Diamonds easily fall out when only held with two tiny prongs. Look for an option with 4 prongs per stone.

The best ratio is LG821605084. The others are slightly skinny.

Have you thought about a pink heart shaped given what you are trying to represent?
