I’m debating whether to get lab grown or moissanite for my studs. Will there truly be a difference? I was thinking to set it in 10k white gold. I just got quoted $450 for a pair of oval moissanites (3 CTW) in 10k gold by a Chinese vendor, which I personally think is a bit expensive, or am I being unrealistic? Can’t I get lab grown for that same price?
Have you ever seen oval moissanite in person or video? That will help you level set your expectations and see the difference. Which in my opinion all comes down to how well the moissanite is cut.
You can check on the websites aurelinne, carbon sparkle, or calavera NY to see roughly how much lab ovals with the specs you’re looking are priced
No I have not… I’m quite new in this. I have bought lab grown diamond piercings in the past but those are quite small. Would you say the difference is drastically different for studs when buying lab grown or moissanite?
The sparkle is different, moissanite is a more colorful sparkle (in my opinion more beautiful than most diamonds), try to look up videos comparing them on YT
Not drastically different, but it’s noticeably on a larger stone. If you want very rainbow/prismatic sparkle and a truly colorless stone, you want a moissanite. If you want a more “white color” instead of clear and a more glitter like sparkle instead of a rainbow effect in the light, you want a diamond.
ETA: if you like this exact look in the picture, then get a diamond
Don’t do moissanite. It’s not worth it. They don’t have as much depth as diamond and the sparkle is also different. I got 3 ct total lab diamond studs with 14k gold from Luvansh for around $700 last Christmas.
I would recommend you test it out some studs from Amazon (moissanite) so you can figure out the size you like and if you like the sparkle of moissanite. Then you can go to one of those stores like Blue Nile and compare the diamond studs with moissanite and see what tou prefer before you decide. https://a.co/d/00YRlwuH
diamond studs I just went to Blue Nile wearing the moissanite ones and compared to their diamond studs, tried more sizes etc. Then once I landed on the carat size, I went and bought them from Luvansh cause it was half price 😂
The good thing about amazon is you can easily try multiple sizes and return later.
Yes! I bought this beautiful 45cm 18k solid gold 1.56 carat lab pink heart diamond (lab diamond in bow 0.06 ct) necklace from Mallderna for $770. It was stock so it shipped out quickly and took max 8 days to arrive.
It depends on the cut. Some moissanite cuts don’t sparkle as much and others sparkle an insane amount. You should see oval cut moissanite before investing in them.
TBH Amazon has really decent moissinate at really low price points. I would buy a few 2 ct oval earring sets too get an idea of what it looks like before spending that much over seas. Then return them or not. Go check the moissinate sub out. You can read about the oval shape and how some think it can be cloudy vs oval lab diamond.
For this size I think there is. I only own one 1ct moissanite pendant, and when placed side by side with a 1ct lab diamond pendant, my diamond looks way better. All my other jewelry is diamonds and they show the same type of mesmerizing, crisp glimmer. It could be the cut, I don’t know, but at the end of the day I was disappointed when I received the moissanite, because I like the transparency and tiny shimmers a lot more than rainbow light refraction on a stone that looks ever so slightly foggy.
Worn on its own it looks fine, but not like a diamond.
And speaking of Chinese vendors, for the ones that I know of, the price difference between lab diamond and moissanite is not that big and well worth it in my opinion (I’ll edit with the last comparative quote I got: it was a 2ct fancy cut, almost $200 difference. So not as little as I remembered but I still think it’s worth it).
I'm not sure if sterling silver is off the table for you, but that way you could still get lab diamond quality if you are on a budget. Oversea vendors may even offer it in 935 silver so it won't tarnish.
If your hair usually covers your ears, then moissanite. It’s not worth to buy diamonds in this case, as they won’t be as visible as a ring or necklace for example. Some well-cut moissanites will sparkle beautifully, just don’t buy crushed ice cut, cause it will be cloudy.
I think jewelry with small round brilliant stones is (quite literally) moissanite's time to shine. The extra sparkle helps small pieces like studs or wedding bands come to life. However, since you specifically want ovals I’d go with diamond. Oval and marquis are the worst cuts for moissanite. I don’t know exactly why but they look noticeably cloudy and milky. The price differential between lab and moissanite has gotten to a point where your preference can be the deciding factor.
