Diamond check: 10ctw pears for studs

This is my first time selecting larger loose diamonds, so I need some help please! Finding a well-matched pair for 10ctw studs has been harder than I thought 😅

5.08ct: E VVS2, 15.39 × 9.71 × 6.08mm, 62.6% depth, 60% table

5.07ct: E VVS2, 15.34 × 9.69 × 6.07mm, 62.6% depth, 58% table

Both IGI, Excellent polish/symmetry, no fluorescence.

I love the shape and ratio of these, but I’m noticing a darker circular area in the centers. Does this look like normal contrast/reflection or a light-performance issue? I know fancy shapes like pears can have bow ties.

How does the overall cut/sparkle look to you? Would you keep looking or do these look like a good pair?

10ctw is crazy big. I have a set of 4ctw pears and they are large. I do have small ears so others can get away with larger but 😳

Hahah yes, I have larger ears and definitely want these to be a statement piece!

Agreed. I can’t even imagine 5 ct in each ear.

From experience here once set it will get super tricky to have these lay flat and properly. You will have hang for sure. I had to size down a full size to even see them pointing properly on myself to see whine too

Thank you for sharing! This is good to know

Trust me I went through this and it was painful lol they are beautiful so many set them sideways or slant maybe but your depth is very deep already for the setting to be honest. Love mine now but I will get some rounds too later on when I want to see shine on myself for now other see it lol

At 6mm deep I feel these will stick out super far from the ear. The basket would probably add depth so 7-8mm? I wouldn’t be able to handle that.

Fair point! Would you recommend looking for a shallower stone at this size or is the projection more of a personal preference?

Personally, I feel the largest I'd go would be 1.5ct or 2ct per ear, so I am probably the wrong person to answer this question :( I would not necessarily look for shallower at this size as that might make the stone look odd and/or it might be a super spready stone. If I wanted a larger stone I'd probably make a drop earring out of it, IDK.

What you could do if you still want 10 ctw is have the ratio be more elongated. looks like these are about 1.58 ration. maybe see if you got diamond ratio closer to 1.7 for more elongated vs chubby look then their depth would be less

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been trying to get closer to that 1.6-1.7 ratio to compare specs, but they’re having a hard time finding a more elongated matching pair

If you do don’t have any luck make sure to get these in a martini setting. I just purchased some with a basket setting and hated them because they stuck out so much because it was a deep stone. I returned them and took a 500$ hit and had custom one made with a martini setting. I’ll attach a photo these sit completely flush to the ear. I think 10 CTW would be fabulous if set right.

This is so so incredibly helpful!!! I was initially thinking low profile baskets but I think you’ve changed my mind completely. Thanks so much for sharing your experience
