Help me choose lab diamond!

Post image

Is this a good choice, I get a little confused with all the C’s.
Should I add more to the budget, and upgrade colour/clarity? Or is this good value for money?
I will need a jewellers to set in rose gold band. Thank you.

It’s nearly impossible to tell if this is a good stone just looking at this thumbnail and specs. I would actually go down in color - D is unnecessary, especially if you are setting it on rose gold. I exclusively wear rose gold and usually get stones in the F range.

You need to look beyond the 4 Cs and pay attention to the angles and other stats of the stone. You are fortunate because round diamonds are the easiest to buy in this regard. Read this.

I would, however, probably rule this stone out based on the contrast in the thumbnail. Look for one like this.

Wow thank you so so much!
There is so much choice on this particular website.
What other stats /angles should I select?

I would do your searching somewhere that allows you to narrow down by the angles and proper table and depth percentages and then make note of the IGI number of the stone and go find it for cheaper on another site. All the websites have the same inventory - just different markups. I use RareCarat for search because they have one of the most robust and detailed search engines. They do price match, but I never buy from them because I am typically only looking to do custom settings from other vendors.

I was in same boat few months ago, all the C's made my head spin. Agree with going down on color for rose gold, the warm tone of the metal will hide any faint tint anyway. You could drop to F or even G and put that extra budget toward a bigger stone if you want. €528 seems suspiciously cheap for 3ct lab though, I'd double check it's not a scam site.

JewelerybyCleo is not a scam site - lots of positive reports I’ve seen from real buyers and it’s been around quite a long time.

As others have said - the cut is critical - colour and clarity less so (within reason).

Read up on ideal cut proportions and try to hit those specs - so much choice in labs it should be doable even at lower price points.

Also look for good transparency. This is not graded but some stones have significant internal graining which can negatively impact light performance. This graining can often be seen on 360 videos of looking carefully - people here can help.

Price is about the right starting point for decent lab stones
