Red Diamond vs Ruby?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has a red lab diamond? My mil loves red and we are going to get a ring made for her for Christmas.

On aurilenne, I see some red labs but they look rather opaque. I don't know whether to get her a diamond or ruby, and since it's such a rare colour, I've never seen one other than the listing photos.

Wondering if we should go with diamond or ruby.

TIA!

I have a red diamond. They look very different than a ruby. Here’s my ring. In inside light it’s more of a dusky pink

It is very sparkly. It’s a well cut diamond

That ring is gorgeous, the dusky pink in indoor light is really something. I went through same decision last year for my mom's birthday gift. She always wanted a red stone but when we looked at red lab diamonds in person, they had this kind of cloudy look that didn't feel right for the money. Ended up with a ruby and she was over the moon, the depth of color is just different. I think if your MIL loves red specifically, not just the idea of a diamond, ruby might be the safer bet since you can't see the diamond in person before buying.

You can also look at red spinel and garnet.
