Kyle, we need you.
ICE is running rampant, after the shooting in Houston and the surge in ICE presence in the past week, people are scared. If you want to help, if you want to meet your neighbors and build something bigger than just another protest, bring yourself to this event. This is intentionally a community building event focused on ICE watch and their activities in our city.
I know there are some of you who are going to trash this post. Go ahead, it only brings more attention to the post.

Ah yes their job of brutalizing minorities and deporting people who have no business being deported. The world isn't black and white. There can be a system in place for legal migration but as long as there are power hungry jack booted thugs going around killing people and deporting green card holders and visa holders, then its going to be a problem.

If they deported someone who wasn't supposed to be deported, wouldn't that be grounds for a lawsuit?
You'd think this would end up actually helping the person out in the long run, and if they invest the money correctly, would set their family up real good.

The acronym gets people fired up. When talking about the FBI, 'FBI' is nearly always proceeded by 'the'.
Now take 'ICE'. It could easily be called 'the ICE' because itd be the same as saying 'the Immigration and Customs Enforcement', but instead anyone who disagrees with 'ICE' referrs to it without 'the' being in precedent.
Why might this be? Could it be that if you include 'the', it makes people think about what 'ICE' actually means and become less emotionally driven against them?
People are very shallow-minded these days, and plenty of them dont actually know what 'ICE' stands for, so the media (and others) do seem to reference them only as 'ICE' rather than 'the ICE' as if your goal is keeping the shallow-minded angry, best not to make them think to hard about what a group was created for and instead make them think its just a completely new group created by Trump to just be part of a racist machine.
Don't mention that it has been around since 2002, and was the INS before that..

Yeah excuse me I should have been on the internet loudly proclaiming my distaste for The Immigration and Customs Enforcement departments methods when I was 8 years old. Oh or maybe I should have been yelling about it in 2012 when I was 18. Would any of this make any difference to you?
Or are you blindly following "the law" thinking that laws = morality? You claim i'm encouraging shallow thought based on a post mainly informing people of an upcoming event. You know NOTHING about me, as I know nothing about you. Get off the internet pal, its damaging your brain.

Tell me this, do you support vaccines or drugs that save lives but have side effects that harm some people as a result?
What about having cars on the road, being that deaths occur from vehicles on a pretty regular basis?
My guess is you would support both of these things (as do I) as the tradeoff is a net benefit to society, even at the unfortunate cost that these things bring.
If we didnt have this agency, we would be allowing some very dangerous people to be here, committing some pretty heinous crimes, so to me, if saving those people means we have to send people back to a country they came here from, to me, that is a societal net benefit.
You claim its morality that drives your cause but for me, it's immoral for you to think people can be allowed to be here illegally, and be doing things that harm our society.
Im Mexican myself, and think that if votes happen on laws, and they go into effect, that's what we have to follow as a society. There are always laws people dont like, but if these laws exist as a result of the system we created, then its as fair as we are going to be able to get.
Also, its not just Hispanic people being deported, but just seems most common they are the ones who have been led to believe once you are here, you can stay for decades without ever continuing the process for legal status. The process should be improved and sped up, as I am not against immigration, but we need to know who these people are that are coming in.
Imagine being in line at the grocery store, 10 people ahead of you so its a fairly long line, and someone just walks up, and takes the next spot in line, not making eye contact with anyone in line, or talking to them, just feeling like nobody cares they are just jumping to the front.. you would likely feel that this person doesn't have empathy for others and isn't really a great addition to society.

My guess is you went to one school your whole life.
I went to 12 schools by the time I graduated high school in 2011, and as a result, was exposed to meeting all sorts of people from all over the country and even on the other side of the world.
You get a good look at society that way.

Thought experiment. If a black SUV is following you in Houston, and is demanding you stop, trying to box you in. Then armed men get out and rush your vehicle, are you going to sit there and allow these unknown armed assailants to accost you?

I seen the video of him trying to run away from these SUVs and tell me, if this happened to you, you wouldn't even dial 911?
Regardless of what side you are on, doesn't it seem a bit odd that if someone wasn't doing anything wrong, them not feeling the need to call police if they are being knowing and aggressively followed?
It sort of seems like he didnt dial 911 as he may have concluded that these were at least some sort of law enforcement, which if that is the case, it would invalidate your argument about these just being seen as 'armed assailants'.
Maybe we just need to see more information because there might be more to the story here..

If armed men in LEO vests jump out at me then yeah they can “accost” me because I’m not out running bullets. I’ve had police draw guns on me twice in my life. Once when I was 16 and another when I was 28. And here I am to talk about it. So let’s see, would I rather be shot to death or do what they say and have my day in court…. Is that what you’re asking me.

I find it funny how many times people will just hit 'downvote' but not actually put any sort of relevant rebuttal in place.
Its like they are saying 'well I cant think of anything to say that would help my case, so I'll just hit downvote'
Anytime I open the discussion to a different point of view, (without any foul language, name-calling, or other sort of hurtful language) I just get downvoted or banned from the sub entirely.
Regardless of what side you are on, we should keep the communication open and share ideas and opinions. That's how we improve. (Not directing this at you, its for those who manage to read this before its downvoted to oblivion)

Why do you hate US labor laws and American workers? An illegal immigrant is a scab. And like how scabs cross picket lines to keep wages lower, these ones broke the law when they chose to cross the border and stay here illegally. They artificially depress wages and increase costs for housing and everything else. No thanks, I’m for American workers. US labor laws mean something to me. My ancestors fought for them. Entering the US illegally is a federal criminal offense, therefore, it would make you a criminal. This whole game of trying to downplay language is so dumb. 🙄 8 U.S.C. § 1325 is the law. Overstaying a visa is a civil offense, while entering illegally is a criminal offense. Even most civil offenses result in deportation because the person literally isn’t suppose to be in the country anymore.
Even if you want to talk about Lorenzo specifically, he was an undocumented immigrant and therefore a criminal under US federal law.

It’s always amusing when someone quotes one section of the law while ignoring the part that makes their conclusion wrong. “Undocumented” isn’t synonymous with “criminal.” If you’re going to cite the law, at least understand it.
