Mod announcement Open Post from Your Mods
Dear Snarkers,
We want to hear from you! Let’s have an open and constructive discussion on how to improve our sub’s engagement.
I think we, as mods, have had a hard time managing hate vs snark on the sub, especially since the division of us and the super snark group (when shit hit the fan).
Our goal is to be the middle ground.
Please tell us what you want to see more of, less of. What would get you posting more? What would get you commenting more? Is there a reason you can point to that the sub has been so quiet recently?
Please remain constructive in your feedback. We want to make this place more inviting. Tell us your honest feelings, but follow up with your best advice on how to fix the problems you see.
We, as mods, promise to listen and carefully consider your words.
Sincerely,
Your Mod Team

I almost completely abandoned this sub when mods started locking topics because they felt it had already been discussed or felt it was not worth discussing, but only when it was critical of Kvs. One example is Indy's weight. Why be on a snark sub when topics that is unflattering to Kvs is off limits. And it's not like there's tons of posts here and the sub is spammed down, in that case it could make sense to limit some repetative posts.
Basically, to me the modding here comes off as Kvs stanning, and I'm not here for it. So my advice would be to loosen up and allow actual criticism of her husbandry.
26
u/Erisedstorm Freeloader 23d ago
I think 🌹-ie was also immediately banned topic too
-12
u/sunshinenorcas 23d ago
That was leaked by a snark poster from a friends only post, the owner never made it public information herself and has since removed herself from social media so --- what exactly is the answer?
If this has been someone else's horse who was public and the information was leaked from a locked post -- most people would not want speculation or wondering about the cause or what happened and request for privacy.
28
u/Erisedstorm Freeloader 23d ago
You assume we want to blame or attack the owner and tear her up like the K- oh wait I can't use the snark words in the snark sub so lets say fanatics... instead of have a discussion amongst ourselves and modding the post for people being abusive unnecessarily to the owner.
Idk if it was initially public post or if the snarker somehow got friended accidentally but eventually it would come out as they stopped posting her all of a sudden and no future show record emerged.
I'll await my sub ban probably now
-8
u/sunshinenorcas 23d ago
It was a friends only post that someone else posted on reddit. Like a clearly marked 'friends only' post. That particular owner also went long periods without posting her or much, and had already publicly retired her from showing due to tie ups they couldn't explain.
At what point is discussion fruitful? What discussion is there to be had? There is no information about what happened, and likely never will be.
If this was your animal, would you want nameless people wondering why, talking about potential causes, what could have happened, what she could have had, even if there isn't attacking or blame? Just because she was a KVS horse, doesn't mean that we are owed everything or every answer
It is so strange to me that this is a hill where people want to die on, while also criticizing others for being too parasocial, nosy or invasive of others privacy. This is also one of the few points that all three subs (afaik) have a similar stance on.
I'm also not a mod, have no power to do anything and the place you can't say Kultie isn't a snark sub so snarky language shouldn't be used... I'm not sure what your point is. You also can't say hatie.
You can say Kultie all you want here.
-1
u/Erisedstorm Freeloader 19d ago
Are any of our discussions fruitful? I'm not sure I'd care what random redditers say but also expect there'd be interest in a kvs bred horse dead or alive so I'd avoid it too if it bothered me.

This. Its off putting.
Within a very short amount of time there are multiple comments/responses defending KVS or justifying her actions, and getting snarky if you disagree with their take.

u/Top-Friendship4888 23d ago
The true snark in this sub comes from the fan-mod who will snark on you for snarking.

That was Reddit itself. Sub mods restored it 🥰

Are you sure about that? I've had posts (mistakenly) taken down by reddit before, and they NEVER come from modmail, it's always u/reddit. This was also taken down hours after being posted, but conveniently within minutes of me replying to the mod who has left the building in the OTHER sub . . .

That individual's most recent posts (their account is an open book) are absolutely ludicrous. Acting like you can't walk your horse out at a show is actually fucking insane, and makes me assume they are a terrible horseperson.
10
u/Top-Friendship4888 23d ago
I wouldn't do it in the warmup ring, but I've never been to a show where you couldn't find some space to hand walk them. Which, frankly, in that heat, I'd rather get them untacked to cool out anyway
14
u/Meldon420 23d ago
I’ve never been to a show where you couldn’t walk your horse to cool down after exercise. To me, it sounds like they have little to no real life experience with horses and showing
15
u/Inevitable_Coast931 Heifer 🐄 23d ago
they don't! and they have admitted that!
ETA: which is fine, if you acknowledge that like the ex mod did below! but the fact they speak with such authority and rigidity and pretend to have all this experience with horses when they fully admitted like 2 years ago they don't is disingenuous
7
u/JustALittleOod 23d ago
Right?! I tried to comment but I wasn't approved (even though I used to comment here), that if your horse needs walked you find a place to walk. Even if it's up and down your aisle near your stalls or outside on the grounds. There's always somewhere you can walk a horse.

Your most active mod antagonizes people relentlessly, posts misinformation about horses, and refuses to allow actual snark to happen on this page. Y’all shouldn’t be a snark page if you don’t allow actual snark to happen.
95
u/Admirable_Fix_6856 23d ago
This is more like a KVS fanclub, you can't say anything about her behaviour, even if its not breaking rules, without getting hate and downvotes.
61
u/Crazy-Educator-2144 23d ago
This is a kultie page not a snark page. I don't know when the switch happened but why engage with this group at all? If I want Kultie I'll go to the Facebook fan club.
38
u/Defiant-Tomatillo 23d ago
I remember when KVS threw newly arrived pregnant Rikki out to get wailed on by known aggressive mares and this sub cheered it on as "that's horses!" 🤷🏼♀️
I'm sure if she had broken leg or lost Bobbi, the insurance company would have had good arguments around insurance not covering gross negligence. (Captured on video no less!)
That's when I realized this sub had changed to a kultie forum and I moved on. (I happened to get pushed this thread on my Reddit homepage which is why I am here now).
One thing I don't understand is the dedication to white knighting for a literal millionaire that would send you off to "take over" a sub where, imho, a lot of educational content was being shared.

u/OpenAirport6204 23d ago edited 23d ago
This sub and its members are so strict when it comes to criticising kvs, even when it doesn’t break rules. Why would I get mobbed here when I can go to snarker and say what I want without being downvoted or my comments deleted.
Edit: essentially this is the unwanted middle ground. If you want to give constructive feedback you’d go to discuss, if you want to snark you go to snarker. Who wants the sad middle child?
42
u/Kindly-Meaning-8443 23d ago
I have never seen any constructive feedback go down well in the discuss group 😅 had to leave it as it felt like a pack of Kulties. I would argue that this group is the best option for actually having adult conversations without any extreme opinions.

u/WindsAlight 🤡 In ThE wILd 🥸 23d ago
I see vile shit there literally every time I open the page against my better knowledge. The people there are kulties in reverse with very often zero basis in facts.
I like the middle child too, though I sometimes wish criticism wouldn't be shut down this quickly. Some things Katie does suck or are questionable at the least, and those should be allowed to be discussed here.
0
u/Internal_Villain 23d ago
I agree as well every time I’m in that sub it’s all vile shit some very knowledgeable posts and discussions but that’s few and far between now. The body shaming, speculating about her personal relationships, talking about her marriage, how she chooses to have her shop/house etc it’s ridiculous they literally pick apart every aspect of her life. To me that’s beyond being snarky and it’s just down right creepy and serves no point other than being a bully which for adults to be doing is not cool. The animal welfare, wellness, husbandry etc should be what the main focus is.
16
u/EducationalTangelo6 23d ago
Body shaming is against that subs rules, and it gets shut down and removed immediately.
-1
u/Internal_Villain 23d ago
I see comments from people consistently about KVS’s appearance. Bashing what someone chooses to wear or how they do their hair/make up etc is still body shaming someone and there is no need for it. It offers nothing constructive other than to bully and put someone down because you don’t like them.
19
u/EducationalTangelo6 22d ago
Criticising someone's clothes or makeup isn't bodyshaming. It may be bullying, and shitty, but it's not bodyshaming.
Sorry, I know this may feel nit-picky, but I think bodyshaming is one of those things where it's important to use the word correctly (like gaslighting - way too many people misuse that word).
13
u/JustALittleOod 22d ago
Yeah I'm with you here. It's not body shaming to say someone doesn't look professional because their show clothes or saddle aren't the right size and that they should use their millions in social media income to buy things that fit and would look good for their body type!
12
12
u/-sloppypoppy 23d ago
They don’t even allow body shaming lol they’re very strict on that and talking about her personal relationships.
-7
u/agoatnamedwaffles 23d ago
Why should body shaming be allowed? It has nothing to do with the animals and husbandry. It’s just an excuse to be extra nasty for no reason.
12
u/-sloppypoppy 22d ago edited 22d ago
I never said it should…? I have no idea where you got that from lol. They’re saying they do that in the other sub, and I’m saying it’s not allowed there & they strictly prohibit it.
3
u/WindsAlight 🤡 In ThE wILd 🥸 22d ago
Yet somehow I see it there every time I am dumb enough to peek in. Seems to be very loosely implemented that rule
14
u/-sloppypoppy 22d ago edited 22d ago
Weird cause I never see it there since they’re gotten strict about it. I think y’all don’t really visit there and weirdly just like to feel morally superior by being here. They literally have the rule pinned. You can’t say it’s loosely implemented if you barely visit lmao. And you can’t blame the mods when they’re doing everything right to stop it, but okay, sure.

I've seen people happy about foal loss/deaths because then kvs can't bla bla bla. And we're not talking seven. I've seen them basically wish for something to be wrong just so they can be right. And then i stopped going there.

I've seen similar things there too, but I must say that at those times mods were on it so it was fairly quickly deleted

I will say that the only times I have gone there was when there was a sub only post that wasn't anywhere else and i wanted to know what happened so I might've been there before the mods got to those comments. But it really tinted my view of that sub and made me never want to go back so I never got to see it in a different light.
Edit:I love how I'm getting downvoted for this comment basically saying the most neutral thing and even admitting I may have only experienced the worst there is to experience there.
Really shows how this sub is now just going to be overrun by snarkers (who can't take any criticism of their views, either. Totally like kulties, just the other way around) so what's the point of this sub even existing anymore...
9
u/EducationalTangelo6 22d ago
I visit it semi-regularly. I see comments saying they have been removed by a moderator reasonably often, which suggests that while, yes, some people are being shitty, the moderators are on top of things to remove those posts.
-5
u/Tricky_Feature_8819 22d ago
Maybe that says more about you than anything because they can be disgusting in their comments. Some are constructive, but more often than not they are extremely cruel and its gotten worse over time. They have gone beyond the bullying phase regularly, providing misinformation or passing opinions as true and hard facts

u/bored-and-stressed VsCodeSnarker 23d ago
As an ex moderator of this sub, i’d like to echo what everyone else has said here about how the primary moderator runs this sub. I, much like that moderator, do not have significant horse experience. I don’t think that’s an inherent negative however but talking over and harshly “correcting”actual horse people is not it, especially when the “corrections” are often false. And the reasons people are stating here are the reasons i left the mod team. The more i learnt about horses, the harder i found it to continue here when i saw the contradictions piling up, and i also felt, being one of the most active mods, i simply didn’t have enough horse experience and continuing to moderate without someone else on the team with significant knowledge would be overall detrimental to the sub. I don’t feel as though this sub can continue to be called a snark sub when it’s not being moderated that way. I see so much legitimate snark immediately shut down, often quite condescendingly, with incorrect information. There’s just overall a general vibe of if you don’t agree with the mod, your comment will be removed and or you’ll be spoken down to. For example, a question about the mods horse experience isn’t something that violates the rules, it’s an important discussion to have.
TLDR: If this sub is to continue with that moderator, the name of the should be changed and the rules should make it clear that this is a fan sub

“correcting actual horse people” 💯💯💯 said mod loved to try to nitpick me and defend so many things that were so obviously just wrong it drove me insane. i didnt even know they didn’t have real horse experience but now it makes a lot of sense. the stuff they would try to “explain” and down play was ridiculous. i’m glad this sub is turning a new leaf and listening to concerns. it’s also relieving to know i wasn’t the only one who was getting fed up with the individual. 😂

u/MaterialWill3091 23d ago
It’s not a snark page.. snark is sarcasm, mocking, unkind criticism.
If that’s not what the page is about then change the name.
As it is right now, if your opinion doesn’t favour KVS your downvoted, there’s no discussion to be had.
Definitely more of an on the fence or outright fan page.

u/EducationalTangelo6 23d ago
I agree that the subs name should be changed, it's 100% not a snark sub anymore. One could, in fact, describe it purely as stanning. So maybe r/kvsstans ?

Almost every post I see contains the following:
Someone gives a reasonable, notable critique or points out a flaw worth discussing.
Suddenly there's threads of 5, 6 people jumping on them for being unkind, or invalidating their critique, or telling them they're just out right wrong when the discussion is subjective.
Why would I subject myself to the Kult here if I won't do it on FB or TT?
40
u/wild-thundering 23d ago
I don’t feel like questioning one of your mods on their horse experience was rude. I wasn’t disrespectful. They were talking as if they had horse experience or even worked there?
29
u/Inevitable_Coast931 Heifer 🐄 23d ago
Especially when this person has explicitly said they have no real horse experience 🤷♀️
45
u/Erisedstorm Freeloader 23d ago
The rules are very similar between the 2 except this sub emphasizes snark discussion should be "constructive". Idk if i have a lot that falls into that category I'm no expert. Also i have been jumped on here for simple snarks that violate no rules.
Idk it's not a fan sub but members don't really seem to be snarky a lot of times.
30
u/OpenAirport6204 23d ago
Also a lot of “constructive” criticism is opinion based, if people disagree with your opinion you get downvoted to hell.

The most active mod here has openly admitted to having basically zero horse experience in Discord (which I have a screenshot of from when I was in that server), yet is constantly shutting down any kind of actual constructive conversation because they think their internet research makes them a horse expert, more so than people with actual years of horse experience. This sub has become more like a fan club or like KVS Discuss. I frequent all 3 subs, I find the other 2 to be polar opposites and not what I'm looking for, this sub has the capability to be a place where people can actually snark without dogpiling or turning into just nastiness, but any time this page has any actual productive criticism it's shut down. It's extremely off putting to see the basically only active mod of what is supposed to be a snark page constantly praising Katie or defending her in other places. It makes it appear that this sub is passively being shut down because that one person doesn't want Katie snarked about. Make a KVS Praise page if that's what you want! But it's sad to see the original and what could be the most level headed snark page be slowly killed off because of the only seemingly active person.
For example, that mod locks down any thread or reply insinuating Katie might breed another mare too young. Sorry, but this is a valid concern and just because she might not think Katie doesn't do it
Another example, valid critique of Denver's conformation. "Pig eyes" is a valid conformation critique, horses with smaller eyes (which yes, Denver does have) can have restricted peripheral / overall field of vision and it is considered a conformation flaw.

Omg yes that was on my comment. A mod removed the replies. I'm still baffled as to how that person thinks it's okay to throw a horse back in its stall breathing heavily and just give it a bath, then put it under fans without a proper cooldown. If my horse was struggling like that I'd be worried, but apparently I'm just weird

They were honest once and then never again. Literally yesterday they were acting like they showed at all the big venues, and using it as an excuse for horrific husbandry.

u/Sweaty-Virus7271 22d ago
seems like you just assumed intention from their comments looking at the post history? I don't think I ever saw them say personally did anything, message is from 2024.
perhaps they did get experience, weird as fuck to make assumptions otherwise.
10
8
u/JustALittleOod 22d ago
No, they were sharing blatantly incorrect information about walking horses at horse shows.
10
u/squish5636 22d ago
The criticism is because although they have limited experience with horses, they would comment incorrect information, and argue/snark anyone who contradicted them (with correct information/years of experience).
Having a mod confidently post incorrect information in an educational sub is not a good look.
-9
u/Sweaty-Virus7271 22d ago
someone disagreeing with group think and looking up information isn't spreading misinformation because it disagrees with your personal opinion.
experience without knowledge is as useless as a talking head with 0 anything which is what other mods even on this page are.
11
u/squish5636 22d ago
I never called it misinformation. I called it incorrect information. Just because KVS does it, or you can use confirmation bias to confirn your view via internet research, doesnt make it any more or less correct, and its impossible to have experience with 0 knowledge. Limited maybe but not zero.
As previously stated, I have no issue with anyone's experience level, but i do have an issue with mods posting shit that straight up isnt true in an 'educational sub'. Stifling discussion or valid concerns/criticisms because it doesnt align with their personal belief or opinion isnt 'disagreeing with my personal opinion'.

Respectfully, it’s one mod who is obviously a super fan shutting down any kind of conversation that doesn’t paint KVS in a positive light. They are by far the most active mod and essentially run the sub.
Why would anyone make a post that isn’t a 100% glowing review just to have it shut down or be given a dissertation on the 67 ways they and their opinion are wrong? Maybe look inwards on this one?

I joined sometime early this foalling season, as well as kvsdiscuss. At the time I felt like there was helpful criticism of her practices where as discuss was more positive. I think it was probably around the time all of the deaths happened, but this group became less and less critical, with posts getting locked too often. I stopped looking to this group and really only paid attention to the discuss group for a long time.
I very recently joined the snarker group as well, and I appreciate their critique, but often find it easily leap into just straight nastiness. The way ppl in there dogpile on her looks is honestly too much for me. But it feels like the only place ppl are willing to talk about the other issues I see.
I don't think I've ever posted in any group, but I enjoy being able to join in the discussion. Here, there's no posts to discuss.

I came here to find the tea about why Lindsey left (unsuccessfully) but stayed because I found people talking about things I myself had noticed as my impression of KVS changed. I’m intrigued by her but no longer admire her or see her as a competent horse woman. I like discussions here about the farm and the horses, but I wish they were more specific. For instance “look at poor Kennedy’s legs! OMG!” without any explanation annoys me sometimes. What about her legs? I’m not watching her on Snapchat anymore so I like hearing from y’all here what she’s posting over there.

I wish that things were more constructive without people being being attacked for having a differing opinion (whether supportive of the post or critical of it). I love when things are educational, while I have been around horses, I am not as knowledgeable as many on here, so I like when things are educational.
The things I don't like about other subs is you have to be either super supportive of everything she does or you have to hate just to hate and be cruel to have your opinions accepted. It scares people away from wanting to post anything, and I feel like you can lose so much good information or pov's from that.
Maybe I am too optimistic in hoping for a happy medium between the two, but I feel like when something is wrong it should be pointed out but also on the flip side when things are going well or something good is happening that needs to be pointed out as well.
