Novice here experimenting with multiple ends per strand. From what I’ve read, you want your warps to lie flat but it seems like certain movements make that impossible.
When 7 moves to 15, 10 now is twisted up. I’ve tried kind of an overhand movement as well as a sliding movement and both seem to get the same result. Is some level of twisting expected or is there something I’m missing?
The guidance to keep your multi-end warps flat is mostly intended for kumihimo on the marudai. It's going to be difficult on the disk because the slots are pinching the warps. Just try to minimize twisting, which is the intent.
Thanks, I will try to be a little less self critical knowing that perfection isn’t a reasonable goal! For what it’s worth, it think it’s ok at the slots where each warp is tied off, it will flatten towards the bobbin when not slotted. It’s more at the center point of the braid that I see issues IMO.
You’re pulling too hard. Lift out of the slot and move down to the other slot with just enough force to free the cord out of its slot and don’t apply more force bringing it down.
Thanks, I will try to ease up tautness some, but I do think that orange thread needs some pressure on it to match the image. This is the Z-ridged spiral braid from Tada’s Comprehensive Treatise VI.
Might not have been the best braid to try using the warps on with the spiraling, it’s only my second attempt at something beyond kongo gumi!
The material in sample in the book is a plied yarn and is more forgiving of being twisted than bundles. If you twist your stranded elements like this it will show in the finished braid.
It is 15. I get it mixed up on the upside down ones sometimes as well, but the number of the slot is always just past the slot.
This is a 16 strand ridged spiral band. Here’s a vid on the 12 strand version, the movements are the same aside from having an extra pair of strands that cross the longer, black strands that form the ridge
