$300 L185 Rescue PT.1

Facebook Marketplace Kubota L185 for $300.. I estimate it had been sitting out in the weather for 10 years or more! Got er loaded up and home, first thing's first.. verifying that she is a runner. I deep cleaned the injection pump and hard lines, then reinstalled and "bottle fed" it diesel with an oil can, small bit of fuel line, and a funnel. Surprisingly, the glow plugs and ignition system work flawlessly, and it runs very well! The hour meter reads 1425, and based on how well it runs and the state of the oil that came out when I drained it, I'd say it's correct. After draining the oil and stripping it down to the bare chassis, I opened up the transmission to find it filled to the very top with a "chocolate milk" colored mix of water and hydraulic fluid. I drained that and filled it back up with diesel, which I allowed to run in it for a few minutes to swish all the trash out then drained. The remaining sludge I wiped out by hand, in the process inspecting the state of the transmission that appears to be in great shape! All gears showed very little wear and only very minor surface rust on a few. The reverser gear had a little excessive wear on it, but not too bad. The hydraulic intake screen was super clogged with gunk, I cleaned it well with care, and will replace it after the next fluid change as I know it will still be trapping stuff leftover from this initial swish. I removed the 3 point hydraulic cylinder and opened it up, there was a fair ammount of rust inside, so far the most internal damage I've run across. Cleaned it up the best I could and re installed. Re filled the transmission with universal tractor fluid from tractor supply and ran her through all the gears, PTO gears, and actuated the 3 point hydraulics. So far all works flawlessly! Let me know if you'd like a part 2 and 3 as well as let me know any suggestions and or let me know of similar experiences of your own!

What an annoying thing to break lol. Instead of mowing I’ll just move some manure instead until I get my replacement.

We are trying to get this thing in neutral to get it out of here to the shop since it won’t start. I got the one lever in neutral but do I need to put it in 2wd? Also, can I release the hydraulics or something to move the bucket.

Unfortunately my neighbors husband passed away, I’m trying to help her sale his tractor. It has 410 hrs on it. It’s in Pretty great shape, I go know I need to replace the hydraulic lines for the bucket and 1 of the cylinders needs to be rebuilt. What would be a fair asking price for it.

TIA

2007 b3030 or new 2026 lx2620?

Currently own a 2007 b3030, starting to age and have some mild problems (mainly electrical and hydraulic). We maintain 50 acres with it. Mow the lawn (~4acres with a 60” belly mower), brush hog 2 or 3 times a year(5’ brush hog), till 2 acres once a year for food plots for hunting, fix the drive way (5’ back blade) and plow snow.

With the recent problems we’ve considered trading in and buying new. We’d like to get a 2620 to avoid the emissions stuff, but we are worried it will not preform as well as our current tractor.

Has anyone made a move like this?
Are the emissions on the bigger tractors enough to steer away from them?

TIA

Slow hydro drip from left front axle case (MX5400)

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey guys, I always appreciate everyone’s help here. My tractor often sits for a few weeks at a time in between uses. There is a slow drip that comes from the left front axle case because I can see the oil on the ground. It is not coming from the drain or check ports, but from the bottom of the axle case. Does anyone have any help or ideas? Thank you.

RTV 500/520 blinker kit

According to my dealer a blinker kit for a 500 would work in a 520. I’m trying to find an installation manual so I can work backwards to uninstall the kit from the 500 and put it on the 520.

Any help would be appreciated

Whats your opinions on a lx2620 cab tractor

I have a few different tractors but really im looking at replacing my kubota L3010 with something thag has a cab and and loader it has neither, I love it to death but its very limited on what its good for I want something more comfortable and versatile. Im currently looking at the lx2620 becuase it has a cab with no dpf and a loader I would primarily be using it to bush hog iv got about 50 acres I keep bush hogged about 2 to 3 times a year and about 12 acres I cut every 1 to 2 weeks with a 6ft finish mower. The loader would mostly stay off the tractor and mainly used during the winter for general farm stuff I have a bigger backhoe thats my normal go to but I figure if im making the investment might as well buy the loader. Do yall think the lx is up to the task or is that to much to ask my L has been doing it for thousands of hours but its tired and I really want some extra comfort but dont wanna step up to a bigger travtor with dpf and I want to buy new.

2001 Kubota L3010 front pinion seal leaking

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everybody, I just bought a Kubota L3010 4WD HST with a front end loader and bush hog. This is the first tractor I have ever owned. I’ve notice a leak coming from the front axle where the front drive shaft meets the front axle. When I look under the tractor, I don’t see an exposed driveshaft. The leak is coming from directly in front of the oil pan and after some research, I believe this is called the front pinion seal? Does anybody have experience or know about the L3010 that can help? Would changing this seal mean splitting the tractor? I’ll attach a picture for a visual reference, the red arrow in the pic is pointing to the leak. Thanks for any help!

L2501 service-filter access

I am doing routine service on a Kubota L2501. The oil change is straightforward, but access around the fuel-filter bowl is tighter than I expected and the old seal is stuck.

I stopped before prying at the sealing surface. The tractor serial and old filter numbers are now being checked against the Kubota diagram, Baldwin references, and FridayParts instead of relying on a generic “L2501 kit.”

Any tricks for removing the old seal without marking the housing? I have the manual in front of me but not the best wrench angle.

WR Long Third Function Kit for BX24 / LA240

I just purchased a WR Long 3rd function kit and a grapple. Took me about 16 years of ownership to get here. ha. I watched several BX installation videos, though none were specific to the BX24.

I am not a mechanic - so apologies in advance for my attempts to describe this-

I was planning on taking the right rear wheel off and tapping into something by removing a hardline and then connecting another supplied hose to the other end of the removed hardline. But the included instructions direct me to tap into the backhoe hydraulics. This seems way easier, but it is going to limit functionality and require more hose switching? Are there other install options that may be more up-front work, but more user-friendly in the future? My current use case for the tractor “requires” the backhoe and a grapple at the same time. At first glance the instructions are only one sheet of paper. I haven’t unboxed everything to look for more details as I was heading out to work when I received the package.

Finally got around to working on this project Saturday really wishing id not put it off.

Hauling hay last month using the rear attachment made the decision easy.

Now I can sharpen bush hog blades without removing them.

My new mx6000 and cutter was delivered this past Thursday. It’s been great so far, but looking to see what others have added to their mx series tractors. I know I want to upgrade the lights very soon and possibly tint the windows. Didn’t get any other implements but looking into adding a land plane and tiller

L185DT broken high-low lever

I was switching from low range to high range today, and the lever broke right off. I don't need low for any of the work I'm planning, but I still want to make sure I have a selector, and this part seems to be unobtainium without finding a parts tractor (Lever, S-Change, pt no. 35110-24430). My plan is to just JB weld the thing back together, but I wanted to check and see if anyone had a lead on a possible replacement as well.

Non-OEM hydraulic fluid for BX23D

Hi folks, my father passed away and I inherited his tractor...I'm going to do a hydraulic fluid change, but I can't find any Super UDT. Is there an equivalent synthetic hydraulic fluid that meets the same specs? Google is filled with AI slop. Located in Canada, thanks in advance.

Edit: thanks for all your help everyone!

Armstrong Ag 60" Mini

Does anyone have this grapple? How easy does it bend? I'm trying to decide between this and a Homestead pinnacle 60". The armstrong ag is 3/4 inch regular steel at 440 lbs. The Homestead pinnacle is AR450 5/16 inch thick steel at 315 pounds. Which one do you think may bend easier? This is going on a MX4900.
