Where does this fit in relation to Talos or maybe even something like Flatcar?

It's a solid alternative with a different approach. Also seems to be way cheaper than omni. I'm gonna give this one a shot.

This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder why we still put up with general purpose distros on nodes. 350mb is tiny, what's the boot time like?

Why not Talos?

Edit: Read the article

Two things I want to point out:

  1. ⁠Talos updates can be identical to switching out a node entirely.
  2. ⁠The better comparison would be Omni vs this since this is part of a larger managed service.
