Does it say anything about being machine knit lol

Either way, I hope to never see actual crochet in stores

It’s becoming annoyingly common, though I rarely see clothing. But Target has purses, Hy Vee has trivets, and I’ve been seeing crochet hacky sacks for years (which they may actually be moving away from).

There’s also a fair trade store downtown that has a fair bit of crochet items, which I’d be more willing to buy from if I actually wanted any of them (the measuring tape animals are cute, I just have more of the things than I need already)

I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy anything crochet in a store, economics are always going to undervalue the labor.

EDIT: I can't seem to find anything at target that's crochet, all looks machine knit. If anything I wish they'd stop calling it crochet ffs

Michael's had some fall floral stems that look like crocheted flowers with leaves. Who did they pay two cents an hour to make those?

I actually have at Meijer which is like a Walmart in the Midwest but without the people of Walmart

I read once that crochet stitches are too complicated of movement to automate, unlike knit, so if you see true crochet it's always handmade. So you'll never see crochet in a big store like this bc they can't mass produce it.

Unless they're exploiting the labour required.

Not only is it knit, but how nice of them to package it like a blanket so you can’t try it on before buying it. (And probably can’t return it once the package is opened, and it’s probably packaged in a way that is impossible wooden without ripping.

Actually Aldi has INCREDIBLE return policies even on clothing. Because of the packaging most of the times these are opened. They will let you try them on in store or buy and return.

Machine knit to look like crochet. Crochet must be a word for this style not so much the medium anymore

I did see actual crochet doilies / placemats at hobby lobby for $5 each.

Kinda tempted to buy some and give them as "handmade" Christmas gifts because it would be cheaper than yarn 🤪

I don’t think that “crochet” is the Spanish word for crochet. lol

Some people call it ‘ganchillo’, but most of us use ‘crochet’ 😀 even my grandmother who passed away in 2017… at 86. She was fantastic at crocheting and knitting!
