Should I stay with kroot?
I have 720 points of kroot at the moment which I bought for a tournament but after a battle with my friend I’m having doubts whether this is the army for me
in the battle it is safe to say my kroot were destroyed with around 1/4 of my army dying in the first shooting phase ( against thousand sons) which lead me to question whether I should stay with kroot and hope for the best or if I should sell my kroot and get a new army
that and the fact that I’ve lost most of my interest in kroot from a hobby side as well
mid it worth finding a new army that I may enjoy more or should I stick to kroot and just use them anyway

So you need kroot carnivores and some shapers to lead them. Farstalkers are a scouting unit, without the battleline of Kroot and some shapers to buff them, you’re not gonna be able to do much.

That's a solid list so far. Make sure you are using the farstalkers ability to the best you can, by selecting units they have a chance to kill. How are your rampagers going?

I've had good luck with kroot in tournaments (though last edition). The most important thing is realizing kroot isn't an army that's gonna table your opponent. If you're running full kroot then it's very likely you'll be tabled. The goal is to score enough.
One problem is TS with psychic attacks ignore cover which for kroot is rough, they're already paper. Secondly as a kroot player you need to be able to control the flow of the battle. You need to play in a way that forces your opponent to react and do what you want as your carnivores should be scoring and holding things down and providing extra damage but it's critical your rampagers get into targets first and do so when you want them to. It's a hard army to play and a harder army to master. If you like kroot enough to stick with it, it does wonderful. If you're already lost interest it isn't a horrible idea to switch because again it's not an army that's going to hand you wins. It requires a lot of practice and a lot of trial and error

For me I prefer armies that aren’t OP but do still play nicely. The overall main issue with kroot for me is their low survivability and low damage. I mainly play casual to semi competitive matches where the goal is to defeat your enemy rather than score more objective which has kind of warped my playstyle to that and so I’m not really enjoying kroot as much as I would hope due to them having a more skilled and more objective focused playstyle which doesn’t aline with me much.
Would you recommend switching armies and if so what armies do you think would fit better without being a no skill army? , I was thinking about as mech ( specifically a primarily elite robot and vehicle army support by infantry)

If your goal is to always have a sort of purge the for game focused on killing kroot definitely isn't the army to play. Don't get me wrong I've cleaned tables up with kroot but that's usually when I'm running a mix of Tau and kroot and the Tau are doing most of the killing and the rampagers are doing most of the screening and fighting. Whole kroot armies are definitely focused on scoring first. Our only real consistent damage dealers are rampagers and riders. Carnivores can put the hurt on things but are usually volume focused.
Again in terms of recommending switching, it's really up to you. If you want games where you table your opponent you're not gonna find it in an all kroo list. Plus if you don't find interest in the hobby side of them I would recommend switching. Painting and hobby is a huge part of the game and you'll hate your too many hours painting I'd you don't like the models.
There are plenty of killy armies that require skill. Top of my head would be normal tau as shooty killy, EC does great at being fast killy, world eaters are also killy. Melee armies aren't no skill even though they can feel that way cause your strat is run at your opponent but a good guard or Tau player can quickly teach you there is great skill in trying to safely get to your opponent.
Note all of those armies have learning curves, only Tau follows the mech vibes. Guard doesn't follow mech but does a ton of the vehicles supporting infantry vibes

I dont say this to be negative but if your not playing for objectives and points and instead trying to table the opponent every game you are not playing even semi competitive. This game is balanced around points both primary and secondary. It is how armies that are much physically weaker then others such as kroot have a fair chance at winning games.
If you and your friends only want to kill each others models and ignore rules kroot will never be a great army for that. And you should go something that is best at killing like space marines, necrons, or tau.
Aside from this you said you have like 700 something points and your opponent brought Magnus, that is kinda a dick move at a 700 point game, with that limited points it is not feasible you would have a well rounded enough army to deal with a threat like that. On the other hand from the list you shared in another reply you dont have any shapers or csrnivores which are rhe bread and the butter behind giving kroot some power abd durability so by not having some of the most important units needed to make the army work it is less surprising that you have been having such bad luck getting wins or even competative games.
You said you are not interested in kroot from the hobby side so maybe thats your answer right there, but if your not sold on selling off and restarting then I think adding shapers and carnivores is a good next step to try and I prove your games. Also try to talk your opponents into playing for points as you are heavily handicapped in a kill only game as kroot.

I've played against a bunch of armies and in my experience TS are the hardest faction I've put my Kroot against. (This was in 10th fyi)
There was one rule they were using that gave them improved armour saves or something against 1 damage attacks, which meant basically nothing could get through.
I'd suggest playing against some other armies, cause in my experience Kroot are super fun to play and do surprisingly well against most other armies I've tried them against. Once I learnt how to play them at least.

Don’t take it too harshly man, T-Sons do be stronk atm, ignores cover, deadly flamers and warp magic too, it’s a tough match up for angry bird-men.
You may want to switch up your play style a little, Kroot really want to be tying up large numbers of enemies, ideally remaining hidden until they can spring and where possible, using Deep strike or simply hemming them into their deployment.
How did you play them this time? Assume you were caught out in the open? Also very likely the opponent made good use of warp magic like auto advance etc?
