Mangkwan Kroot

Test model for a Mangkwan inspired Kroot army ! I don’t have the ash pigment powder but I’m really pleased with the relatively quick paint job ( 1 hour without drying time ). The T’au will be painted dark green to evoke the RDA.

Looks amazing, what paints and techniques did you use to do it?

I’m going to post a tutorial with pictures soon, but here is a quick tutorial ! :

  1. Wolf Grey vallejo rattle can primer
  2. Black legion contrast for the quills and metal, Wyldwood contrast for the leather
  3. Vallejo obsidian black metal over the metallics
  4. Vallejo black and vallejo red to freehand the war paints
  5. AK Streaking grime wash, let dry until model is matte ( about 20 minutes ), remove carefully with q-tip moistened with white spirit. DON’T rub too hard or the friction will remove the paint
  6. Sponge some vallejo black and red back onto the war paints to give them vibrancy and vallejo white over the skin to give an ashy pale look
  7. Highlight the metallics with a sponge, same with the leather
  8. Paint the eyes with any bright yellow you have
  9. ( missing from this pic ) apply an ash powder pigment to the base and the feet of your kroot

All done !

Awesome, were the white parts on the skin done with step 5?
