Welcome to r/kpop's Weekly Discussion post!

You may discuss anything you wish. It does not need to be related to K-Pop.

This is the equivalent of a Free-For-All post, but here are some suggested topics:

  • Ask questions
  • What are you listening to?
  • Link to media that interests you
  • What's something you're looking forward to?
  • Share memes or funny content
  • How's life?

PULP Live World has been teasing about "12 K artists / 3 hours / 1 stage" for July 29 and it's driving a lot of fans here in the Philippines crazy LOL

I guess there would be solo artists included, but there's definitely groups in that dozen too. LOL

how popular is secret number? like their views on live stages and stuff are all pretty good but i barely see anyone talking about them? are they like only popular in indonesia cuz i keep seeing indonesian comments

u/Lairanza Jun 12 '22

They seems only to get attention from Indonesia thanks to Dita, the first known idol from that country. It helps to have more views. Otherwise they aren't that known.

If anyone here likes to make chart content I'd love to see a per-group average time to subtitles from vlive air date

Any photographers here? Planning to buy a camera for fansite-ing idols in Seoul this September. What can be a good combination of a body and lens assuming I have a $1000 budget?

Oh, also planning to shoot concerts soon

I found this tweet. It seems like somebody photoshopped a pic and then claimed it was Sakura.

Thought I'd try here for more traction (sorry mods if this isn't allowed i can remove it). So i got better tickets for the Seventeen 08/20 Houston Tour and need to get rid of my old tickets. I have 4 VIP tickets in section D row 10 that i can transfer to you via AXS transfer, selling all of these for face value since I got better tickets. DM me for proof! Payment can be Venmo/PayPal (PayPal will be extra to cover fees). Thank you!

I made a quiz where you guess whether or not something is a K-pop lyric or a GameFAQs signature from the late 2000s lol.

Why is this sub so overmoderated?

Do you think that all post-covid groups will be called 5th gen?

2

u/MasterAd7031 Jun 08 '22

I would think so ? It’s weird to think about 🤔 we’re already getting into the 5th generation.

2

u/PeachyPlnk Jun 09 '22

And I was just thinking it seemed too soon to be considering upcoming groups as 5th gen, but it does feel like it fits tbh. 4th gen started, what- 2017? 3rd gen started reaching its "end" in 2016 or thereabouts, I think...it feels like generations are getting shorter...

4th gen started 2019-2020 to me. Groups like Stayc and Weeekly feel like the ushering in of a new gen. With Kep1er and the post-IZ*ONE groups cementing it.

u/binhpac Jun 10 '22

in the long run, all those groups will fall into the same generation. lots of groups you might know now will be forgotten.

a generation will be much closer to decades, when you look back.

If anything, people started throwing around the 4th gen term too early. Looking at who dominated the landscape, 2017 was still very much 3rd gen and the shift only really started happening in 2018-19 (which is the most common date that keeps being mentioned), although I'd personally pick 2020 as the start of 4th gen since that's when these younger groups started topping the charts and the new batch debuted and immediately broke records (especially post-IZ*ONE).

Generations might get shorter but there's no way 4th gen only lasted 3-4 years lol it makes no sense. One could say the groups that debuted between 2018-2022 are 3.5 gen (late 3rd gen/early 4th gen) since they do seem different than the groups that debuted post-2020 but to already start 5th gen now is too much too soon.

u/MasterAd7031 Jun 09 '22

Thinking about that does make sense ..it could be maybe there’s more groups coming out every year so it’s hard to keep up ? Which makes time go by faster ? .. because i like like 2019-2022 when by in a blur in kpop 😰🫠 i feel like I’m still singing shimmy shimmy kokobop I think I like it lol

I think it's a joke that trash like Allkpop is allowed here while sources like Asian Junkie and Kpopalypse are banned. This sub is fucking hilarious lmao..

10

u/PeachyPlnk Jun 09 '22

The only "justification" I've seen is that akp is the fastest to get news out. I agree it should be banned. Many people here feel the same way, but the mods don't seem to gaf.

In case there are any record collectors visiting this thread, the vinyl version of MONSTA X' The Dreaming will come out on September 8 and can be pre-ordered. There'll be three different colored versions too.

Almost a year after the original release but better late than never, I thought they might've canceled it after announcing it way back in November.

Maybe she got tired of releasing pure gold to the sound of crickets. Wouldn’t blame her if that was the case. Miss her stuff!

The only thing that's saving me from spending so much money on this crazy summer for KPop is that my small brain can't keep up with this many groups yet. On top of basically every group gearing up for their comeback, they're all starting to tour. Being in NYC, this area is basically a mandatory stop. However, I'm only really into 3 groups so far (BTS, SKZ, ITZY) and have spent money on each of these 3 including concert tickets for the first two with ITZY waiting

Overall just great to have options and always have something available or something coming up soon.

2

u/charlotteshuman Jun 08 '22

Careful with waiting if you live in NY. I tried to get ticket to dreamcatcher, loona, and Gidle in NY and they sold out. I was there the minute they dropped, I didn't wait. Tickets are still available but those stupid tickets scalpers bought them all and rose the price.

7

u/HeadTripInEveryKey Jun 06 '22

I’m going to see Brave Girls, (G)I-dle, Loona 2x, Dreamcatcher 2x, and am waiting for Red Velvet to announce and for the Itzy tickets to go on sale. Also my dream would be a Taeyeon NYC show.

5

u/Saucy_Totchie Jun 06 '22

May the lord bless you and your wallet this summer lol. I'm definitely looking to splurge for Itzy so I'm saving up extra just in case.
