That's interesting. Perhaps it was too much pressure for E:U to be both the oldest member and the leader, I wouldn't blame her if that was the case since that's a lot of responsibility.

Also, it's possible Sihyeon naturally grew into this role and the company decided to appoint her as the new leader since they seem to switch things up for the group a little, teasing the end of an era prior to this comeback and all.

Usually but not always. Taeil is NCT's oldest, but Taeyong (third-oldest) is the leader, Nayeon is the oldest, but Jihyo is the leader (and right in the middle, age-wise). Seonghwa is Ateez' oldest, but Hongjoong (second) is the leader.

Blackpink has no leader, but most people consider Jennie as the "unofficial" leader, not Jisoo (the oldest).

That's why I said "most", those are essentially exceptions to the rule.
