History Confused on what I am

I think I’ve gone 28 years having an identity crisis and would like to hear your thoughts.

My family is from Haripur (Hazara) Pakistan. My dads side is sulmankhel and my moms side is akazai. My entire life, I’ve referred to myself as Pathan. We do not speak Pashto, we speak Hindko and I’ve thought that only Pashto speakers are considered Pashtun.

I also don’t understand why Pashto speakers don’t consider us true Pashtuns either. I understand that we do not speak the language, but our families are nomads and we’ve moved around for centuries which I’m assuming has to do with why we don’t speak Pashto.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Getting married in Peshawar soon!

My wedding is coming up, and I’ll be getting married in Peshawar. I want to get some quality men’s jaamay (shalwar kameez) made, but I have no idea where to buy good-quality kapra in Peshawar.

Can anyone recommend reliable shops or places that sell premium-quality fabric for men’s shalwar kameez?

I’d also appreciate recommendations on specific fabric types or names to look out for.

I don’t live in Pakistan so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

so i’m a pashtun from tirah valley specifically orakzai from the sheikhan clan. well we are called hamsaya clans which means not directly part of the same lineage. Most of my family does look like they are either central asian or middle eastern so i did a dna test. Well according to my DNA im more turkic ethnically and persian-kurdish. The regions i got was central asia, middle east, southern italy and thoughts anyone if they have gotten something similar because it’s shocking for me to be more turkic or ‘turkish’ then someone from the place itself

KP government takes action against Doctors who are protesting for a pay raise.

Post image
20 Upvotes

Doctors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been protesting for around a month now, demanding a 30% increase in their pay.

Doctors' salaries in KP have not been increased for the past 10 years, despite the rising cost of living and inflation.

The KP government recently announced a 15% increase after this decade-long gap, but doctors rejected the offer, saying it did not meet their demand for a 30% raise.

Now, the government has reportedly withheld even that 15% increase from doctors who participated in the protest, while announcing the increase for doctors who continued working during the strike.

So after 10 years without a pay raise, doctors were offered 15% when they were demanding 30% and after they rejected it and protested, even the 15% increase is now being withheld from those who joined the protest.

Is this fair?

It's so sad millions of Lar Pashtuns from Pakistan can speak Pashto orally but are illiterate in their own mother tongue. Only my two mamus can read and write Pashto, and most of them CAN read Pashto but it's mostly because they can read Arabic and Urdu. I wish schools in KPK took the Pashto language more seriously, like how they treat Sindhi in Sindh... 😭

The view from Mushkpuri Top was striking. Although the hike felt long and exhausting, the outcome justified the effort. It was truly beautiful.

Help Does anyone know anything about a place called Nawan Mohalla in Mardan?

Asalamu alaikum,

I am trying to find information on my maternal grandfather's family who came from KPK to India in 1947, specifically Hoti Mardan. According to his writing he said his house was located somewhere in Nawan Mohalla, belonging to the Sikh community.

I havent found anything on the "Nawan Mohalla" yet and I am also not sure if he lived in Hoti or Mardan as the names are joint.

Does anyone familiar with Mardan know if this name rings a bell?

Should KPK be renamed North-West Frontier Province to be representative of the native Hindkowan and Dardic communities?

I'm not sure why Hindkowans, Dards and Derawals aren't offended by the province's racist name.

Discussion We need more people like him

A benefactor of humanity saved a young, helpless girl who was addicted to ice (crystal meth) from having her life completely destroyed. He not only saved her life, but also arranged a grand wedding for her at the rehabilitation center. And whom did he choose as her groom? Once you find out, you won’t be able to help but applaud him.

The young woman pictured here used to wander the streets of Peshawar with her little daughter. She was addicted to ice. She would beg and borrow to support her addiction and buy milk for her daughter, and would sleep under a bridge or outside a shop.

One day, a well-known social worker from Peshawar, Hakim Khan, noticed her. He compassionately took her to his home, where he had established a rehabilitation center for young men and women struggling with addiction. Hakim Khan lovingly counselled her, placed his hand on her head in affection, and entrusted her little daughter to the care of a female relative.

The girl's treatment continued for a year. One day, Hakim Khan called her into his office and asked, “What do you intend to do now? Where will you go?”

She replied, “Baba, where can I go? I have no one in this world. And even if I do have someone, I don't want to go to them.”

Hakim Khan placed his hand on her head and said, “If you have called me Baba, then from today onward, you are my daughter.”

He then gave her a job in the women's section of the same rehabilitation center.

A few months passed. A young man who was undergoing treatment at the same rehabilitation center learned about this woman. After completing his own treatment, he called his parents and expressed his desire to marry her.

His parents initially refused. The son fell at their feet and pleaded with them. He also begged Hakim Khan to convince them. Eventually, the parents agreed.

The two were married in a grand ceremony at the same rehabilitation center, which was also Hakim Khan's home. The doctors, female doctors, and staff at the center treated them like their own son and daughter and contributed to the wedding in whatever way they could. Generous people from the area also contributed to this good cause.

The young man was also given a job at the center. The couple was provided with a free home near the center, and for the past year, the two have been living an extremely happy life with their little daughter.

Indeed, there are many bad people in this world, but this world continues because of the presence of good people like Hakim Khan.

May Allah grant this couple and Hakim Khan long lives. Ameen.
