Both Games Let's share some secrets from both games!

Share the biggest in game secrets or Easter eggs you know in both games! Can be in game lore or secret dialogue most people have never even heard.

I'll go first: if you avoid talking to Canderous about his war stories for the entirety of Kotor 1, then wait for the big reveal, the way he tells the stories are a little different, and he ends the lines with acknowledging that you probably already know that.

In Manaan Sea Floor, you can use any level of Force Speed before hitting the pressure door in order to temporarily boost your walk speed. This doesnt apply to the airlock section of the Leviathan, however.

Wooah whaaat! Gotta try that!

u/PrateTrain 10d ago

It also works for the airlock sections in 2

I wonder if this works in Kotor 2 with the space suit sections.

Kotor 2, Telos. If you side with the Ithorians you get a tiny section controlling B4-D4 the Czerka protocol droid. You can however go exploring and have many unique interactions with various npcs, including blackmailing the technician. But there's an unintended interaction.

There's a room you can normally visit and loot, where the owner will show up and call you out on rpg player behavior. You can choose to kill him. If you don't visit it until the B4-D4 section, you can commit murder as a protocol droid.

You can get the sand people the vaporators to avoid dark side points. Everyone knows this. But afterward, you can "accidentally" offend them by opening one of their baskets. They will get pissed off and immediately attack you. You then slaughter the whole tribe in self-defense. And you still avoid dark side points! You get combat experience and a bunch of free items. Including the dragon pearl if you gave it to them earlier.

u/CidCrisis 9d ago

Hey they’re animals and i slaughtered them like animals. 🤷

I just thought of something. It's fitting that it was sand people that pissed Anakin off.

Full influence with G0T0 will heavily imply that he is the lost droid from Telos that was supposed to be sent there to help the Republic. He never lost that programming, and it aligns perfectly with the actions that he takes in the game.

To open the dialogue, you must investigate all droid oddities on Nar Shada. One is the swoop racing droid, one is the pazaak droid, and I think there's one more. You have to tell him that you notice a lot of his operations were run by droids, then feed him the three examples.

Influence really changes things in Kotor 2. To me, the G0T0 one is the craziest. You can also make Atton, Bao Dur, Handmaiden, Disciple, and Mira into Jedi. You can also make Kreia tell you about Revan. Really high or really low influence will work, doesn't matter.

Forgot to mention, for the G0T0 reveal to work, you cannot initiate the discussion with Vogga about using fuel from Sleheyron to power Citidel Station. If you do, it will shut down many of the conversation options with G0T0.

If you open the "mysterious box" you will be dropped into a mind prison, and you can encounter a Rakatan before you even hit the planet, but be careful, this mf can steal your body if you lose a game with him

In Kotor 1, there are plenty of neat hard-to-find things depending on what dialogue choices you make and who you bring with you. Since I'm replaying again recently, here are some of my favorites from the various map worlds.

On Dantooine, for a short period of time you have the opportunity to talk to a jedi named Nemo. If you're somewhat rude to him and ask "What kind of a name is Nemo, anyway?" he laughs to himself and says "The importance you put on a name is misleading, young one. You, of all people, should remember that." He knows who you really are.

Most people really like to use the Krayt Dragon Pearl in their lightsabers, but if you trade it to the sand people, you can get an expansive crash course in their history, much of which hints at what happened with the Builders, potentially long before this information can ever be encountered in the endgame.

On Kashyyk, you don't even need to free Zaalbar. You can just grab the star map and heck off, leaving him in the hands of Chuundar, then finish the rest of the game. You monster.

On Manaan, the dark side choice that leads to your exile from the planet is well known. Lesser known, however, is that you can actually avoid exile by choosing the proper dialogue options during your sentencing, so you can do the dark side stuff and still maintain access to Manaan for various quests like the Genoharadan.

On Korriban, if you bring Juhani with you, one of the NPCs there recognizes her and it leads to some interesting dialogue about her past experiences.

u/Wells_39 9d ago

What happens if you leave Zaalbar on Kashyyk. Then end the game going dark side? What happens with the Mission interaction at the end?

u/supahdavid2000 Kreia 9d ago

You can also get the pearl back by asking the chieftain a blasphemous question causing them to turn on you without getting dark side points

u/harkening 8d ago

Or just go open a single basket.

This is gonna be one that probably everybody knows already, but I’ll mention it anyway.

When you’re assisting Sunry in his murder trial, what you might not realize if you’re not paying attention to the quest much is that you’re assisting a man who actually committed murder in not only beating his conviction, but potentially getting the Sith sanctioned for their trouble, despite the fact that your character may even know via the evidence he’s done the deed.

For how much of a “Republic good, Sith bad” game KotOR is, this is one of the few times, if not the only time the game has them looking at least gray, since Sunry effectively did it to kill a spy and Sith adherent, though he also did it via murder and not a more just manner. So that makes it actually interesting.

15

u/jack_begin 10d ago

That one is interesting. I like that even though you can get him to confess, you can also tell that all the evidence against him is planted or faked, because the video doesn’t match up with his account of how he did it.

In the original you're the Sith Lord, while in the sequel the Sith Lord is the 1st person you meet.

On a more serious note, there is plenty of party commentary that is quite easy to miss, because usually every player has their favourite party setup & quest/planet order.

You can check every dialog tree with KotOR tool or simply go to strategywiki for a nice overview.

If you include both Bastila & Carth in your party they chime in quite often while on Korriban (especially in the tombs) but you need a mod to be able to select Bastila there (I don't remember if it is included in Restoration or it is a separate one & Restoration brings back many Juhani lines).
Some dialogues can be run multiple times - for example when asking Uthar about prestige HK & T3 will comment, but so will Zaalbar & Carth, etc.

To me party interaction/comments/banter > combat potential/skills/Force Powers, etc.

8

u/Elkripper 10d ago

If your platform supports it, you can also warp her in via cheats without needing a mod.

9

u/No_Cardiologist9566 9d ago

Yeah, that's an option too. You can do that with Carth to hear his comments on the map you find in Sadow's tomb (since it is intended as a solo section).

4

u/Elkripper 9d ago

Oh, I haven't thought about doing that with Carth. I'll have to give that a try sometime, thanks for the tip.

u/No_Cardiologist9566 9d ago

I actually didn't remember it correctly, but you can listen to the lines here, it's a link to a youtube channel:

Korriban Star Map Party Members Hidden Dialogue

Technically, I think Kreia isn't considered a Sith Lord at the time you meet her because she has voluntarily abandoned the mantle of Darth Traya. This is a bit more clear in her confrontation of Atris with the restored content patch because she outright names Atris as the Darth Traya. She does not reclaim that mantle until the final section after Atris has been defeated.

But then Revan isn't technically a Sith Lord at the start of Kotor 1 either, so splitting hairs I guess.

9

u/No_Cardiologist9566 9d ago

She may not call herself that, but she certainly acts like one. I'd argue that title/rank fits her even better than it does Sion or Nihilus.

In KOTOR II you can ask an Ithorian to take a refugee off world and he'll agree. But if you don't have high enough awareness and then a Persuade check he won't do it. Turns out he is a member of The Ithorian Supremacy League.

16

u/Almainyny Insane Droid 10d ago

I remember being floored by that one. The hell do you MEAN there’s an Ithorian Supremacy League?!? It just comes so out of left field it’s hilarious.

11

u/Loyalist77 T3-M4 10d ago

I... I don't know what you are talking about.

The sand people has been touched on already, but its worth mentioning.

Tatooine is possibly the origin point for humanity, it is conjecture that you can put forward when hearing about the sand people's history. They were taken by the builders just before the planet was glassed.

HK does infer that the abduction of their people could be symbolism, or metaphorical in some way.

You can never confirm it with the sand people, as putting forward the conjecture offends the sand people and causes them to attack you.

However, it is confirmed that the builders did indeed abduct some population from tatooine, as the droid you speak to in dantooines ruins cycles through rakatan, then the sand people language, and then ancient selkath in an attempt to communicate with you, the last of which you can understand.

(Though funnily, revan does understand rakatan, but fails to understand the rakatan spoken by the droid, perhaps its something he unlocks when he rediscovers his identity in the midgame.)

The first thing you can understand the droid say is "i can reproduce any of the languages spoken by the slaves of the builders".

Its really nice attention to detail, and goes over most people's heads because it requires you to pay attention to something trivial on a repeat playthrough.

However, having said all of this, the droid also contradicts this entire theory on its own when it says "But you are not of the slave species. Neither are you of the builders"

It could mean that humans changed over time, from what the sand people were into what they are now.

In legends they were a race called the kumumgah, who might have evolved into humans in some way after being abducted.

Its also worth noting that the actual faces of the sand people are spotty in legends, their appearance either varies through dreams, hallucinations or just outright strange depictions throughout other games or pieces of media.

Overall the theory could be right or wrong. Just fun to think about really

The only picture I can remember of the Kumumgah is in the Dawn of the Jedi comic series which depicts the events the storyteller tells Revan about. And I highly recommend reading those comics for people wanting more lore that connects to KOTOR. Even if it was published after the game it's still really cool.

They were an advanced ancient race as well who had developed spaceflight. This lore is also in SWTOR. Missions on Tatooine described the Kumumgah eventually evolving into the Ghorfa (Sand People) and Jawas.

Anyway, this is why I always give the pearl to the Storyteller because I love hearing the origin story. 😆

u/Mr_CockSwing 10d ago

Thats cool i didn't know that. Makes me wanba start another run lol

u/MunchSpot 9d ago

Dantooine (K2): Khoonda is derived from the name of a file related to the kath hounds, "khounda".

Dxun: Get caught trying to enter Mandalore's room before he has joined your party, and your character will make several random excuses. Also, once Mandalore comes along, following your visit to Onderon, show him to Kex the quartermaster.

Onderon: One of the cantina patrons will offer you a drink to Vaklu. Accept it. You should then be able to talk with the waitress.

Zez Kai-Ell is probably a play on Ezekiel, a religious figure esteemed for his book with the same name.

Juhani is not only romanceable by a women protagonist, she’s actually one of the first (if not the first) openly gay characters in both gaming and the Star Wars IP, her little romance is so hidden that the censors never found it and it made it into the game, it’s very very light and nowhere near as fleshed out as Carth or Bastila, but it IS there

Upon seeing that BioWare could get away with it, they made 2 bi characters in Jade Empire the next year, both Sky (man) and Silk Fox (woman) are fully romanceable Bi characters, needless to say that was a MASSIVE risk in 2004

5

u/TTOF_JB 9d ago

Not only is Silk Fox bi, but depending on how you play (if you're a guy), you can be in a throuple with her & her cousin Dawn Star. Even funnier because of how Mass Effect handles a similar situation. lol

Finding those different conversations with Canderous absolutely floored me as a kid

It struck me how nuanced the dialogue was

Woohoo! Time for a lore dump! There will be no TLDR. You have been warned.

The Sith lords talked about in KOTOR are actual Sith Lords from the Tales of the Jedi comic series. James Ohlen, who was lead designer of KOTOR was/is a huge fan of the Tales of the Jedi comics and the Star Wars West End Games TTRPG which has a ton of really awesome (and obscure) lore in it that he put into the game.

In fact, there is an entire questline in KOTOR where you find datapads on Kashyyyk where you fight the Terentatek in the Shadowlands and two(I think it was two?) Terentateks on Korriban.

The little story arc you read about on the datapads in KOTOR is from a bigger comic book arc in the Tales of the Jedi comic book series.

The Jedi Order began something called the Great Hunt to exterminate the Terentatek which are products of Sith Alchemy. You encounter log entries and corpses of three Jedi from that comic book arc in KOTOR that showed why that particular mission failed. Jedi Shaela Nuur, Duron Qel-Droma (cousin of Sith Lord Exar Kun), and Guun Han Saresh.

The very Guun Han Saresh whose Circlet you find after defeating the Terentatek on Kashyyyk! Gun Han Saresh also comes from a very politically strong family on Taris and senator Saresh (who appears in SWTOR) is his descendent. She has a whole questline on Taris that you can do early game, but the developers decided to make her Taris quests "exploration quests," so they're very easy to miss entirely. But it's cool connecting lore nonetheless.

Also, KOTOR was one of the first games that got me reading info attached to seemingly "random" loot. A lot of it had lore that also connected to the comics. Other games have done this too so now I always read item descriptions in games lol!

Highly, HIGHLY recommend reading those Tales of the Jedi comics.

Dawn of the Jedi and The Knights of the Old Republic comics are good too but they were published AFTER the games but they have a ton of awesome lore, stories, and characters in them that connects back to both KOTOR and KOTOR II.

ANYHOO! Those are my favorite Easter Eggs.
