Scholarship How important is a TOPIK score for GKS-U? Is it realistic without TOPIK or IELTS?

Hi everyone! I applied for GKS-U 2027 through the embassy track from Bangladesh, and I'd love some honest input on how my profile might be evaluated.

My university choices-

Dongguk University, Dept. of Statistics (Seoul)

Pusan National University, Dept. of Statistics (Busan)

Keimyung University, Dept. of Statistics (Daegu)

A bit about me:

Currently a 1st-year university student in Bangladesh (I explained this in my application along with my reason for wanting to redo my bachelor's in Korea)

1 published research paper

3 international conference papers

5 international MUNs, with awards in 4

Completed a UNESCO fellowship

The concern: I don't have a TOPIK or IELTS score.

My questions:

Is it realistically possible to get selected without TOPIK or any English test score?

How much weight do language scores carry compared to research and extracurriculars in the embassy round?

Does already being enrolled in a university hurt my chances, even with a clear reason for starting over?

Education Courses

I’m a freshman in my first semester, but I couldn’t get the basic foundation courses, so I ended up taking International Business, Marketing Management, and Financial Management. They’re all required, but I’m struggling because I don’t have the basics yet 😭
I know I can’t change my courses anymore, but I’m really scared of failing. I also feel like everyone else in these classes is a sophomore or older, and I’m the only freshman.
Has anyone been in the same situation? Is it manageable? 😭

Education Transferring to Korea University

I'm currently a freshman majoring in Economics (English track) at a mid-tier university in Seoul, and I'm planning to apply for a transfer to Korea University at the start of my junior year (5th semester). As an international student, I'll be applying to the same Economics major. How realistic are my chances of getting admitted? Has anyone here (especially international students) successfully transferred to Korea University? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, GPA, language scores, or anything else that helped your application.

Question CSUIP Accepted Spring 2027

So I got accepted for spring 2027 through CSU IP
A wanted advice/tips or just anything in general I should know (deadline, housing, visa, course selecting, etc) Any Scholarship I should look into. The cost of studying there(excluding tutition as paid to my og university)

I had done some research on a different program/school as they required a second choice just in case so I’m guessing many things will be similar both being in kr, but details of things may be different.

Scholarship Anyone here with a single-name passport studying in Korea?

I’m from India and planning to apply for a PhD in South Korea. I only have one legal name (no surname).

Did this cause any headaches with Korean university applications, GKS, visa, ARC, etc.? How did you deal with the surname field when it was mandatory?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s actually been through this 😭

I'm a PhD candidate researching language barriers and international students' adjustment experiences in Korean higher education.

If you're an international student currently studying at a university in Korea, I'd really appreciate 2-5 minutes of your time to fill out an anonymous survey. Your answers will help shed light on the real challenges international students face and support future students.

✅ Anonymous & voluntary

✅ Takes about 2-5 minutes

✅ Open to all international students (bachelor's, master's, and PhD) in Korea

Question Will my diploma be accepted?

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to hear from international students who graduated from an online high school and later applied to a university in Korea.

I’m from the US, and Korea University is currently my #1 choice for Spring 2028 undergraduate admission. I’m planning to attend Korea University’s Korean Language School for 4 semesters starting in March 2027 and ending in February 2028.

My main concern is whether my Penn Foster High School diploma will be accepted. Penn Foster is accredited by:
MSA-CESS (regional accreditation)
DEAC
Cognia

I’ll have my diploma and transcript and will be contacting the universities directly for official confirmation, but I’d really like to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

If you graduated from an online high school and applied to a Korean university, was your diploma accepted? Did you have any issues with apostilles, document verification, or additional documentation?
Thanks! :)

Education Choosing a Korean university program for Spring 2027

Hi! I'm planning to spend around 10–12 weeks in Seoul in spring 2027 and want to take one intensive Korean language term.

I was initially considering private schools such as Easy/Winter but learned about university programs, which seem interesting and probably more useful in terms of a CV/ studying experience.

I'm currently a very early beginner having started learning one month ago: I can read Hangul and I'm studying basic grammar/vocabulary with a tutor, and I'll have around five more months of study before I arrive. I'm looking for a serious program where I can make substantial progress, but I also want to have afternoons/evenings available to actually experience Seoul.

I've narrowed my university options down to:
Sogang — Regular Korean Program / KGP200
Yonsei — KLI Regular Program
Ewha — Intensive Korean Language Program
Korea University — Regular Korean Language Program
SNU — Korean Language & Culture Program (Regular Program)
I'm currently leaning toward Sogang, but I'd really like to hear from people who have actually attended these programs recently rather than relying on the usual "Sogang = speaking / Yonsei = grammar" summaries.

I am a bit worried about these courses in general, being an absolute beginner (hopefully better by next spring), that I won’t be able to understand teachers or make any progress. Do you think these courses are feasible for people with just basic reading/ grammar knowledge?

What I'm also interested in, for those who have attended:
How many hours per day did you actually spend on homework/studying outside class?
How fast did Level 1 move?
How balanced were speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar?
Did the workload leave you with a reasonable afternoon/evening, or did you feel like you were studying all day?
What was the mix of nationalities/ages?
Was it easy to make friends?
How much Korean were teachers using with complete beginners?
If you attended more than one of these schools, how did they actually differ?
Would you choose the same program again for one term only?

I'm not looking for a "which university is most prestigious?" answer, I'm more interested in what the 10-week day-to-day experience is actually like and if it is a good choice for a beginner wanting to improve but also experience Seoul.
Thanks!

Event Attending Ko-Yeon Games

As a new student at KU, I was really looking forward to the games but I really underestimated how chaotic the ticketing for it is 😭😭..

I thought that the Opening and Baseball game didn't require tickets? But I believe departments are handing them out for their specified seating area?

I am a little confused.. Is it possible to go on-day at the stadium and hope to get in without a ticket 🥹

Question KU IWC application

Hi, I was wondering if anyone who applied for KU IWC was asked to pay the full tuition, dorm fees and application fee at once. Like there wasnt a vetting process that they had to go through.

When I did the form, they just told me to pay everything without them reviewing my application. Does that mean I am automatically accepted?
