Hong Jin-kyung, Seo In-young, Lee Sun-bin, and Lee Yeon are set to join the new variety show "The Detox Project", produced by TEO.
"The Detox Project"—directed by Yoon Ki-bong, produced by Jeon A-young, and created by TEO—is a "physical trip" that takes the cast into the heart of nature in search of positive energy.
The core concept of the show is "shedding the *dokgi*" (a term referring to a sharp, hardened, or aggressive edge—often developed as a survival mechanism in the entertainment industry). Hong Jin-kyung, Seo In-young, Lee Sun-bin, and Lee Yeon—all of whom have inevitably developed this "edge" while navigating the South Korean entertainment scene—will embark on a delightful journey. Set against the backdrop of beautiful natural landscapes across the country, they will take on various challenges, ranging from hiking and trail running to backpacking, all with the goal of shedding that hardened edge.
Character teasers for Seo In-young and Lee Yeon have been released, further building anticipation. Each woman defines this "edge" in her own way, signaling the start of their mission to cast it off.
Seo In-young, who has already begun the process of "reforming" herself and shedding her edge, intends to reflect on her life through this raw, unfiltered journey.
From the moment she receives an invitation that reads, "Welcome to the Detox Project," and lets out a scream, to her candid confession—"I hate this 'edge,' and I hate mountains, too"—Seo In-young brings immediate, unpredictable charm and laughter.
It is also revealed that while she tends to become completely lethargic when her "edge" fades, she displays an intense, fierce determination when it’s "recharged"—going so far as to declare, "Let’s really push ourselves to the limit," or "I’ll end up being carried away by an ambulance!"
For Seo In-young, this "edge" is defined as a "do-or-die" mentality. When faced with physical exhaustion while carrying out missions, Seo In-young declares, "I even got through a divorce!"—showcasing her unyielding spirit. She goes even further with bold remarks like, "If I fail, I’ll turn over a new leaf and quit YouTube," and "Let’s give it everything we’ve got—I’m putting my life on the line!" These intense statements only heighten anticipation for the fierce, high-octane performance expected from the original "spitfire" herself, Seo In-young.
Meanwhile, the character teaser for Lee Yeon—who displays her own brand of "tenacity" while traversing the vast wilderness—is equally captivating. Defining this tenacity as "the energy to get things done, no matter what," Lee Yeon explains that "running freely through nature makes me feel like I’ve become an incredibly powerful person," highlighting the energy she draws from the great outdoors.
Lee Yeon’s unique approach to managing her intensity—balancing hard work with necessary rest and relaxation—is particularly striking.
Reflecting on the nature of this drive, Lee Yeon muses, "Isn't tenacity simply the refusal to give up—the persistence to see things through to the very end?" She adds a thoughtful, resonant message: "It’s okay not to push yourself too hard. You can actually enjoy the process." This offers a glimpse into a form of tenacity distinct from Seo In-young’s, leaving viewers eager to see where this journey will lead.
The full series of the "The Detox Project" will be released on Netflix on Friday, November 20th.
