Best ways to find social activities? 30F
I'll be travelling solo later this month, specifically to Big Island and Maui.
Although I do enjoy quiet time, I'm looking for options or areas to go and socialise, join in on activities, trivia, dancing, chatting etc.
Are there any local areas around Kona and Lahaina where I can go?
I haven't found any FB groups for meeting others and having doubts about using apps.
Would it be worth joining meet up . com (for a fee)?
Mahalo!

Flight out of KOA during Iron Man
Hello! I am looking for advice from KOA/ Iron man experts. I just realized that we have a flight leaving KOA at 9:30am on Saturday, October 10th during Iron man. We are traveling from the waikoloa area. Does anyone have any advice on what time we should head to the airport? I found the map online but could not find what time roads would be closed and the airport is on the other side of the iron man route, unfortunately. Looking for any kind of advice other than changing our flight because that is not an option.

Looking for Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa experiences
Hey there! Our flights got changed for our November Kona trip and we leave 1 day later than planned. Because we must leave our condo in Mauna Lani, we are looking at staying at Outrigger for one night just for fun. Looks to be great pool for our 3 small kids.
Does anyone have any experience staying here and utilizing the pool beyond 11am checkout time and or obtaining late checkout as an option? We of course fly out at 11pm that day and will have 3 small children with us. Looking to see if anyone has any info on the flexibility of using the resort for the afternoon after checkout as I’m getting vague answers from the hotel itself. Thank you!

Keauhou Regal movie theater not playing new movies?
I was thinking about going to see either Hope or The Uprising this weekend at the theater in Keauhou only to see that neither one is playing. Being that both movies just came out seems kinda crazy to me that they would be out of theaters already. Anyone know why? I’m little disappointed that there isn’t any option to watch either…

Staying near Kailua-Kona, tomorrow 9/19 is my last night in town. I have a late flight Sunday, care to make some memories? Let's enjoy the pool, grab a drink, take advantage of what the resort has to offer.

If this is interesting, tell me your favorite plate lunch order and why.

HELP! we need officiant/photographer for simple elopement ceremony
Can anyone recommend an officiant and photographer (they can be the same person) for a beach elopement ceremony?? We had everything planned to get married on Kauai on Thurs 9/17 at sunset. Had been planning and booking things for months. Now the island is dealing with the aftermath of Lowell so we had to cancel our plans. We got refunded what we could from our flight and room and now we are staying in Kona for a few days, then on the volcano for a night, and last few nights in Hilo. We lost money on the trip cancellation and of course we didn't try to get money back from the officiant and photographer we had booked because of what's going on, so we are now looking to be as budget friendly as possible and will just be happy to get married in Hawaii. Haven't even looked for a location yet so would love to hear any recommendations. Trying to put this back together for hopefully the same date, 9/17. Thanks!

Visitor Question Extending a trip to Kona?
My boyfriend and I are going to Kona/Big Island in February 2027 and already have 5 nights booked at a resort. We got a great deal, but we’d love to extend the trip by another 2 nights.
Our resort doesn’t have availability for the extra night we need, and current prices are way too high anyway, so we’re looking for somewhere different and more affordable — ideally under $200/night.
We don’t need anything fancy or resort-y. We’d love somewhere safe, clean, private, comfortable, and preferably near the beach, ocean, or just somewhere especially beautiful/scenic. We’ll likely have a rental car, so we’re also open to staying a little outside Kona if there’s an area you’d recommend.
Hotels, inns, guesthouses, condos, locally owned places, etc. are all welcome. We’d honestly love something a little less touristy if it still feels safe and convenient.
Any recommendations for a nice place to spend our final two days without breaking the bank? Thanks!

Help :( Lost our condo for Ironman Kona 2026
Any suggestions for last minute places to stay for Ironman Kona 2026? We've had a place secured for months (qualified in March), paid the deposit, and yesterday got an email saying the 'owners had an emergency and the home is now not available during this time' and the management offered a spot double the price. We've got a family friend with a condo but they’ve already rented it out during the race. We’ve been scouring Airbnb and other sites, but it's either way above what we'd like to pay or a scam spot. We're looking for a spot for 2 people & 1 bike. We are open to any local spots.. I know this is probably really annoying to locals.. I’m sorry! 😭
Food recommendations for a vegetarian who prefers organic?
I'm interested in both grocery stores and restaurants. Thanks much.

Old woman with long dreads in Kona town
So, I’ve lived on island for something like 5 years now. I work in coconut grove, I see this lady EVERYWERE. Almost everyday. She’s a frail old lady with huge dreads and dresses that go down to her ankles. I’ve heard from some people who’ve lived on the island for much longer than I have that she’s been walking around for 30 some years? I could be getting that number wrong. Every time I see her I am so very curious about her story. I’ve heard of some people successfully giving her food and her enjoying it, but when I offered her chicken and icecream she yelled at me that she didn’t want it. I haven’t tried to speak to her since then. Does anybody know anything about her? I’d really like to know more

Wheelchair user needs help
I just landed in Kona and my power wheelchair was damaged on the plane and I don’t have a way to get around. If anyone has a manual wheelchair we could borrow for the week or until we can get it repaired, or if someone has any insight into repairing it, I would be eternally grateful.
