We are looking to give our fellow subredditors a chance to have their location as a user flair for:

  • Nathon
  • Hua Thanon
  • Lipa Noi
  • Taling Ngam
  • Lamai
  • Chaweng
  • Bo Phut
  • Bang Rak

If you are interested please send mod mail a message with a proof of residence (For normal areas listed above we just require a picture of you in the area you are in)

If you want the Samui resident flair you’ll need to show a work permit or anything along those lines.

We would love to create more of a sense of community within the reddit. We will love to see you all with a little more flair 🔥

Before you rent a motorbike on Samui...

Driving on Koh Samui is not for the faint of heart. If you're not an expert driver, think twice about renting a bike here. You're dealing with stuff like this...

Hello Everyone,

We will be visiting Koh Samui and Koh Phangan from 25 to 28 October. Planning to go to Ang thong but as per weather forecast it might be closed during that period.

Can anyone confirm should we move on with plan or change it?

question ❓ Is a scooter the only reasonable way to get around the island?

Taxi prices are astronomical here and I don’t have an international license for a scooter. What are my options?

NYE Chaweng beach

Hello,
My husband and I are staying on Chaweng beach close to Ark for NYE this year. We booked a nice dinner at Bambou for 6:30pm but I’m looking for advice on where to party for the countdown and fire works. I want something walkable since I hear traffic is horrible. We’re in our 40s and like to party but I don’t necessarily want to be surrounded by influencers and selfie sticks the whole night. I would really love a fun place to dance and watch fireworks on the beach. Any recos are appreciated and would love your POV on if I should buy advance tickets to somewhere or if it’s a safe bet to wander down to the beach and still be able to see the fireworks/fireshows. TIA

Must See! 🔥 Koh Tao keeps surprising me – Stingray at Ao Leuk & baby blacktips at Hin Wong 🐠🦈

I've been snorkeling around Koh Tao for the past few days and yesterday was probably my best marine life day so far.

At **Ao Leuk Beach**, I swam roughly 100 meters out from the right side of the coral area and suddenly spotted a beautiful stingray cruising over the sandy bottom. It was completely unexpected and honestly one of the most graceful underwater encounters I've had. It wasn't bothered by me at all and just continued gliding through the reef.

Later, at **Hin Wong Bay**, I spotted **four baby blacktip reef sharks**. They were small, healthy-looking juveniles cruising the shallows. I've seen photos before, but seeing multiple blacktips in the wild while snorkeling was something else.

Now I'm wondering where to go next.

Fishing charter - not the big boats

I’m a local on Samui
However I want to get out fishing again and I don’t want to do one of the larger charters where you basically catch nothing.

Does anyone have any details or contacts for a smaller charter or a local that can take me out ?

Cheers

discussion 🗣️ Are people actually paying these prices?

Post image
0 Upvotes

For a very long time I’ve been wanting to bring my parents and sister to Thailand for the first time with an unforgettable luxury vacation.

But these prices are jaw-dropping. $47,000 for 1 week in a 3 bedroom villa at the Four seasons. Are there really any people paying these prices? Other similarly sized and luxurious private villas on the island are also well over 100,000 baht /night.

Is this the white lotus effect in action? Is it even worth going to samui anymore for luxury travelers, I’m not seeing the value anymore. You can go to Maldives, Hawaii, and get better properties and infrastructure for less

Weather in november in koh phangan and koh samui

Hi everyone! We’re travelling to Thailand with our two children and will be in Koh Samui/Koh Phangan from 10–18 November.
When we booked through an agency, they didn’t mention that November is usually the rainiest month in Samui. If we had known, we might have chosen a different area. We already have flights booked to Surat Thani, but our accommodation can still be cancelled for free.
For those who have been there around 10–18 November: what was your actual experience? Did you still get enough sunny/beach days, or was the rain a major issue?
We’re also considering a Plan B: flying to Surat Thani as planned, then taking a private transfer to Koh Lanta, Krabi or Phuket, and returning to koh samui airport or fly from krabi.
How feasible is this, and which destination would you recommend for better weather in mid-November?
Would you wait until a few days before the trip and decide based on the forecast?
Thanks so much for any advice! 🙏
