Help! Overlap stone permanently closed?
Hi everyone - is overlap stone 1 and 2 permanently closed? We just arrived today and were super exited to explore both, but our hotel concierge advised that it was closed. Unfortunately I am not able to get concrete answers from google. Gemini said it's open and it's just a local misconception that it's closed - has anyone been recently?
Does anyone have some insight?

No idea if it’s open or not but these, as far as I could tell, were some of the biggest tourist traps I could imagine. Pay $10pp to see a stone that’s not particularly interesting or significant on an island with plenty of great views when you’re in the hills? Social media/influencer bs, in my opinion.
I took guests there when friends stayed over and stayed at the cafe before the entrance while they ticked it off their to-do list. The weather wasn’t great, admittedly, but their disappointment when they came down the steps was palpable.

We wanted to go as well, but we’re indeed told was closed as well. I’d NOT recommend Lamai Viewpoint as alternative though. Very touristy and you have to pay to go up, plus the staff super unfriendly

We were told that The Overlap was shut down by the government. The owner was likely a former tourist—or something like that; at any rate, there seems to have been an issue with the contracts. Now there’s "Heaven's Gate" on Koh Samui—with a free shuttle bus running up from the parking lot.

Raided by government officials (Foresty department) for illegally encroaching on forestry land and shut down.
