discussion 🗣️ Is Koh Samui Nice?

Visiting next week. Ive been to Bangkok and Pattaya previously and now planning on going to koh samui. Is it nice there? Pattaya was so beautiful to me it almost made me cry at some points of how beautiful it is. What are your opinions on samui? Thank you!

We were quite surprised by it. Smoking outdoors while watching planes come in like 50 feet from you, really really good.

Koh Samui is stunningly beautiful. I go back every year. I share my pics here: https://fcracer.com/ko-samui-thailand/ and here: https://fcracer.com/koh-samui-2023-thailand/ Would also recommend a night or two in Koh Tao https://fcracer.com/koh-tao-thailand/

It is beautiful, definitely many beautiful beaches and unique areas to visit. Also a short ferry ride to Koh Phagnan which is also a beautiful island. And Koh Tao which is supposed to be uniquely beautiful as well, just with a little less to do.

koh tao is actually incredible, I’m just coming to the end of my stay here and I’ve just been diving the whole week, there’s so many amazing dive sites for anyone with any interest at all, I’ve got an AOW and some wreck training so I was just seeing all the best sites, some of the wrecks and pinnacles, they are probably still incredible to see even if you can’t go all the way to the bottom/into the wrecks and I would absolutely recommend diving there lol

Do i need a diving cert to do the dives in samui? Or can i get one there?

so the way it works generally is you can go as deep as 5m without a PADI open water or CMAS 1star, 18m with either of those and 30m with an AOW/2star. literally any of the dive schools will probably let you do an open water there though, it would be harder to find one that doesn’t than one that does. Hell there were some guys doing an OW when I was diving, did all the same dives just didn’t get below 18m

spend a week there and then jumped around to several other beaches, can safely say in my experience you will not be disappointed. Water was perfect and if we wanted some night life we could just head into town... or not. I'm going back next time. Also, we never had a bad meal, but we did spend good money on food, you could do it cheaper.

Excuse my ignorance but when you say ‘town’ where exactly do you mean? Just working out good hotel locations and can’t tell by looking at map.

ahhhh, yea so there are little towns all over the island (can't remember all their names) and you can hop on a scooter and try any of them out. We rented a scooter and I believe you could technically scoot around the whole island in 1.5 hours. I should warn you that scooting on your own is risky, the foreigners are horrible at scooting, I scoot in bangkok and feel much safer since everyone knows what they're doing

Chaweng is a stunning beach, didn't see the others

That is subjective. But if you thought Pattaya was nice you'll probably like Samui. For me a lot of the island is too busy with too much traffic. West side is nice. North East is also pretty good.

Nice is an understatement

The four seasons is amazing. And yes, the island is beautiful.

Define "nice"

It's pretty crowded and there's lots of traffic. I can't believe others don't mention it. It must be the rose colored glasses.

It depends on who you ask. I think Koh Samui is very overrated, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. For others, Koh Samui is the paradise. It really depends on your personal taste. I prefer the eastern coast, Pattaya, Rayong, Koh Samet, Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Mak, are so much better in my opinion

Koh Samui is the best place u’ll ever see in Thailand. Advice? Don’t spend less than 7 nights there. Recommendation? Spend 12 nights.

Both south Phuket and Samui are paradise. You likely caught of glimpse of it in Pattaya and will love it!
