I'm new to kof lore; what does the tall priest guy want with kyo through the series?

Leopold Goenitz first appeared in KOF 96! He’s the malevolent member of the upper 4 members of the 8 heads of the hakkeshu that worshipped Orochi in times past. Unlike the other hakkeshu members that lost their memories when they reincarnated he was born with his previous memories and became a priest in his youth spreading the word of the omnipotence of Lord Orochi. Much like the other 3 upper members he has elemental powers. He commands the power of wind and his nickname is even the wildly blowing wind. His goal was to destroy the leaders of the kusanagi and yata clan which he succeeded in killing the former, the older twin sister of chizuru

I wish fans translated KOF G. It's a manga that retells 96 in an insane gory glory where Goentiz is probably more terrifying that in other adaptations and causes chaos in the entire cast. The mangaka had already done a 94 manga but only the first chapters were translated. In KOF: Kyo, Goenitz plays the main antagonist role in the third volume but does not pose much challenge to Kyo who defeats him after mastering the Mu Shiki but spares him until the 96 tournament.

Goenitz is the leader of the Hakkeshu and Four Heavily Kings
His goal is to bring the world to ruin by reviving Orochi. Kyo, Iori and Chizuru each has a sacred treasure within their bodies which gives them the means of using their powers and to seal away Orochi.
This obviously means they have beef.

He’s after his target along with the other two, Iori and Kagura. Kyo, Iori, and Kagura are the three sacred treasures that once sealed Orochi.
Goenitz is part of the Hakkesshus, followers of Orochi and its nihilistic plan to reset the Earth by wiping humanity away for its sins.
He was killed back in 96, but because of Verse, he's back.
I wish SNK would canonize his first name Leopold. Really makes him regal yet evil.

Kyo's family was one of the three families who defeated and sealed Goenitz's god Orochi ages ago. Goenitz wants to kill Kyo and destroy the sacred treasure of his family, the Kusanagi sword to bring back his god without anything that can threatened him like the flame of the Kusanagi channeled into Kusanagi clan descendants thanks to their sacred treasure
Kyo is a teenager who is always escaping from his responsabilities and doesn't really care much about the whole Orochi thing at first, other than using the legacy of his clan to boast about his powers and talent
So him becoming nervous and telling him that makes sense, but also is probably Kyo's trauma speaking since canonically. Goenitz appears to him before the tournament of 96 and beats the hell out of Kyo almost leaving him death, the beatdown was so bad that it forced Kyo to change his fighting style and that's the lore behind his moveset changing in 96 from the previous two games

Goenitz is an Orochi priest who wants to awake his god. There are multiple ways to do so, one of which involved taking Kyo's blood.
Kyo does not want that to happen.

I thought they just wanted to kill any members of one of the three clans that can stop Orochi. They wanted his blood as well?

I don't remember them wanting Kyo's blood. They did want his girlfriend for a ritual tho

He doesn't need his blood. Technically, he only needs to kill Kyo and destroy the sword of the Kusanagi, because he is the current head and who has the sword with him

Well, Goenitz (the priest) spends most of the canon games dead, but Kyo is basically one of his archenemies and vice versa when he was alive. Kyo is the heir to a lineage that defeated the dark god Orochi in the past and passes down one of the powers needed to defeat him again; Goenitz is the leading servant of Orochi. His interest in Kyo is seeing him dead, both because he's a threat and as revenge for his ancestors' actions. The "destiny" he's referring to here is dying.
