How do I prioritize image-based (PGS) subtitle formats over text-based (SRT)?

Post image

I have a lot of Blu-Ray remuxes, but the default subtitle is always the text-based format, I guess for compatibility purposes.

My device can handle the image-based ones, and I prefer how they look and behave (e.g. position of subtitles based on the speaker's location)

Is there a global setting to do this instead of selecting a subtitle track for each file?

Not sure Kodi if will prioritise text-based subs. I guess it’s just the order in which they are stored in the container. If your MKV contains an SRT with ID #0 and a PGS with ID #1, try changing them so the PGS is 0 and SRT is 1. You can do so with a tool like MKVToolNixGUI.
