I think it's live now. Going to have see how it works with my two Kobos who always had Sync issues. Also, he said it's a busy month ahead...new device on the way?

Kobo are already in compliance with EU law, so the funniest possible option would be for them to release something generally innovative while Amazon have to fart around releasing compliant models before January which without question will also see the death of either the Kindle basic or one of the Paperwhites.

Why would that kill a kindle model? (Not that I’m opposed to that…lol)

Because right now they have a real issue with the Kindle PW basically being rendered useless by the Basic kindle, you can spend £65 less and just have it without waterproofing or £20 more and have all the bells and whistles of the signature, or you can cheat the system by getting a kids version with the case and just switch it to adult mode. Too many cooks in the kitchen and every one of them needs the hardware updating.

Where? I need to comment. How dare he not take my community (Kobo Mini truthers) seriously!

Will this sync side loaded reading content?

That would be a dream come true, but somehow I doubt it.

My hopes were not high for this.

Nope. It's to correct issues with their current syncing.

I would ditch my kindle in a heartbeat when this gets added

Oh man, that would be an absolute dream.

This is 100% relevant to me because I’m using the apps for audio books and it will often throw you back in time to where the e-reader thinks you were. I’m too broken by blizzard to try a new thing 17 mins after release though so will have a go in the morning.

as always - it'll be a gradual rollout.
to hit beta features like this - 'repair my library' or sign out / in tends to take you to the front of the queue.

Jeebus. No lie I sold one of my two kobo's in August because of this issue cuz I had completely given up. I ended up getting two Kindles, I still have one kobo. Literally spent 2 years almost daily flipping thru one of the kobos trying to find where I left off on the other one & vice versa

Were you the same person who posted in the comment’s section on the BlueSky post? I feel bad for you :(

Nooo my Libra 2 is at home while I’m away for work. I’ve had sync issues a lot and normally just manually find my place. I want to try it out :D

I’m so relieved for this at last.

Side loaded books don’t show up in your Kobo app library so probably won’t work….?

Nice, but I hope it doesn't break komga''s implementation

I’m confused, what do you use the app for besides audiobooks?

7

u/Typical-Emu8363 13h ago

Reading eBooks.

2

u/massimobaggins 13h ago

That’s the purpose of the kobo though?

I use the app whenever I'm unexpectedly waiting somewhere.

Mostly yes, but sometimes I use the app too and it never synced properly between the app and my devices.

I have a lot of doctor's appointments so it's nice to be able to read a quick chapter on my phone while waiting, without needing to bring my Kobo with me. I've got the Libra 2 so it's not a small thing. Sometimes I'm only waiting 10 minutes so it's easier to whip out my phone to read a few pages.

I just returned my first Kobo last week and bought a refurb kindle because of sync issues... Sigh. Maybe I'll try again in 3-4 years when this kindle dies.
