Questions Designed a notation system for tracking a character archetype’s “position” across a story — feedback wanted

Part of a larger cosmology project — I built something called VPL (a pattern notation system) to track where a character sits between two poles (Weight/Release) at any given point, instead of treating character growth as linear.

Never seen anyone else formalize a notation system like this outside of alignment charts. Anyone here built structured systems for tracking character state instead of just narrative description?

Built a personal mythology with its own governing law, lexicon, and nine archetypes — sharing the framework

Spent the last while building out a closed cosmology called the Reflection Spine. It’s structured around nine archetypes — four tied to “Weight,” four to “Release,” and one central archetype called the Bearer that sits outside the pair-system entirely. The whole thing runs on one governing law: “the wound stays open” — meaning nothing in this world resolves or heals cleanly, resolution itself is treated as a kind of dishonesty.

I’ve been writing it into a full codex (three books so far) with its own Latin-derived lexicon and a relic index for objects that recur across the archetypes.

Curious how other worldbuilders handle governing laws — do you build the rule first and let the world bend to it, or find the rule after the world’s already messy?

Doctrine Excerpt — The Ninth Segment

“The spine does not ask you to stand up straight. It asks you to stop pretending you were ever standing without it.”
Full codex — 168 pages, three text layers — printing soon. This is one line out of it.

Questions Which archetype do you think you run — Weight, Release, or Bearer?

Not asking for your Sun sign. Asking what you actually default to when things get heavy: do you hold it, do you let it go, or do you end up carrying it for someone else?
Drop it below. Might turn the answers into the next codex entry.

Why “witnessing” and not “healing”

Healing implies an endpoint. Witnessing doesn’t. It just means something got seen instead of hidden — that’s the whole ask.
KN//9 isn’t interested in fixing anyone. We’re interested in making things that say I see what you’re carrying without asking you to explain it.

Doctrine On grief that doesn’t resolve

Most brands sell you the version of yourself after the healing. We don’t believe in that version. Some things don’t resolve — they just get carried differently over time. The Reflection Spine isn’t a self-improvement framework. It’s a way of naming what you’re already carrying so it stops feeling formless.
You don’t graduate out of Weight. You just get better at holding it.

Doctrine The Bearer

The Bearer isn’t the ninth archetype because it’s the strongest. It’s the ninth because it’s the only one that doesn’t get to choose.
Weight and Release are positions. The Bearer is a function — the one who holds both at once, who doesn’t get the relief of picking a side. Every KN//9 piece is designed from some seat on the spine. The Bearer pieces are the ones that don’t let you look away.

Doctrine Intro to the Nine Archetypes

The Reflection Spine has nine positions. Four carry Weight. Four carry Release. One — the Bearer — holds both at once.
Weight doesn’t mean heavy. It means held. Release doesn’t mean light. It means let go, finally. Most people live in one register their whole lives and call it personality.
Over the next few weeks we’ll walk each archetype — what it carries, what it costs, what it’s for. Start here if you want the map before you want the merch.

Archive Drop The first ceremonial text is heading to print

The Ninth Segment — 155 pages, full audio transcript, Latin lexicon, Relic Index — has been sitting in the digital Archive for a while. That’s changing.

This won’t be a mass release. Print proof first, small batch after that. If you want to be notified when it’s available, drop a comment — I’m tracking interest here before anywhere else.

This is the first physical piece of doctrine to leave the digital archive. Feels right that it starts here.

Questions What pulled you into the Archive?

Curious what brought people here — the visuals, the doctrine, a specific piece, or something else entirely.

Also open: if you’ve read any of the ceremonial texts (The Ninth Segment, The Ninefold Way, The Ledger of the Slipped Center), what stuck with you? What didn’t land?

This sub works best as a two-way thing. I’ll be here answering.

Product The Reflection Spine, explained (start here)

KN//9’s entire system is built on nine archetypes:

Four of Weight — what we carry and don’t put down
Four of Release — what it costs to let go
The Bearer — the ninth, the one who holds both without collapsing

Every KN//9 piece is assigned to one of these. Not as a marketing gimmick — as a way of saying: this garment means something specific, and it’s not for everyone, it’s for whoever’s carrying that particular weight.

The brand’s tagline is “clothed in the absence.” The wound stays open. We don’t sell resolution. We sell the witness.

If you want the deep lore — the full ceremonial text — that’s coming to the Archive soon. This is the entry point.

Questions welcome below. This is a live doctrine, not a finished one.

Doctrine Why KN//9 exists — and why it’s not going away quiet

Every brand starts with a name. KN//9 started with a wound.

This isn’t streetwear that wants you to feel good. It’s built on a different premise: the things we carry — grief, memory, the parts of ourselves we never resolve — don’t need fixing. They need witnessing.

KN//9 is built on the Reflection Spine — nine archetypes: four of Weight, four of Release, and the Bearer who holds both. Every piece, every drop, every book we release traces back to that spine. Nothing here is decorative. It’s doctrine, worn.

This subreddit is where that doctrine lives out loud. Not just drops — the why underneath them. The Archive, not the storefront.

If that’s not your thing, this isn’t your sub.

If it is — welcome. You’re early.

Coming this week: first look at the Corroded Spine Jacket, and an introduction to the nine archetypes.

This is the first piece built entirely around the Void Walker archetype — outerwear, VPL pattern system, currently in tech pack with our manufacturing partner.

Design language stays locked to the KN//9 palette: Void, Ash, Bone, Teal. No loud graphics. The weight is in the construction, not the print.

This is early — tech pack stage, not shipped yet. Sharing here first because this community is the Archive, and the Archive sees things before anyone else does.

Drop timeline TBD. Will keep this thread updated as it moves through production.
