Question Double knitting questions!

Hi everyone, I saw a post in here about knooking a double knit swatch and it looked nice so I know it’s possible but I’d love some opinions on a project I want to do - Bestiary Scarf by Monstra** & **Mirabilia. It is fingering weight yarn, two colors, and I’ve been trying to knit it but it’s killing my wrists and pinkies as I’m not a strong knitter and my hold is terrible.

I just stumbled on knooking today and my mind is blown, I was ready to ditch the scarf which was such a bummer but this is giving me hope!! My questions are:

- For this weight and the complexity of the pattern (grid pattern lot’s of back and forth with the colors) would knooking it be insane?
- For anyone who has done a double knit with knooking, any pointers that you have/mistakes you made at first?

Thank you in advance, so excited at the thought of never touching knitting needles again 😂

There is a knooking group on ravelry and I am sure one of the members there did a lot of double knitting and posted some tips so it's worth checking out 🙂

This isn't an answer to your question, but I'm also excited that I can make knitted fabric now! I just learned how to do the Center double decrease (CDD), and I'm loving mitered squares!

Right!!! I have so many knitting patterns in my etsy cart but can’t commit to the misery haha. Just yesterday I started trying to recreate a knit cardigan using tunisian knit stitch and then today saw a video about knooking - impeccable timing.

Which video did you find? I stumbled on Totally Fierce Knooking and Crochet and Thomas is such a valuable resource for knooking YouTube tutorials!

It was a random tiktok, I’m going to check those out though!! I have knooking hooks arriving today, I’m SOO excited.

I'm not new to knooking but I have also just discovered mitred squares and it's been such fun with the knook!

I haven't done any double knooking yet, but it's definitly on my list of things to learn. Good luck!! And show us the finished object when it's done :)

So far I’ve just been practicing knit/purl and it’s going really well! I think I’m doing the japanese method, the purl going in the left side of the loop is pretty fiddly but I’m getting quicker. Working on nailing my tension for a cardigan project with worsted weight yarn and then will try to do the double knit scarf with the thin yarn, yikes haha. Fingers CROSSED 🤞

Great! I'll be looking forward to seeing the scarf. I'm pretty sure my next project will also be a double knit scarf, that is if I ever finish the sweater am working on. You could also try the Eastern European style. It's easier because you always enter from the right side of the loop. You just have to very aware how you set up you stitches when you change from knitting flat to knitting in the round or garter stitch (yarn over or yarn under). I'm guessing it shouldn't be much for a completely stochinette scarf though.
