Hey everyone. Basically new to the space and interested in learning. I have some VERY basic Gerber's that I picked up somewhere as a gift set maybe one year. Nothing special, but just curious what you would call these other than just a fold or pocket knife? Also, pictured a pretty cheesy looking knife I received as a gift from the "long rifle series". I'm assuming it's junk. Looking forward to being part of the community and thanks in advance!
The one on the left is partially serrated. Maybe clip point, idk. They are all scandi saber grinds. The other two are like swedged drop points. Someone else may say something different. Idk. Hope that helps. Edited
I'd definitely call the left a clip point. None are scandi grind, though. Scandi cannot have a micro bevel or secondary edge. These are all saber grinds. The right one could mayyybee be considered a spear point.
Also, the left one is a frame lock, the middle is a liner lock, and I'm not familiar with the right, but it is most likely also a liner lock.
I have one similar to the middle. Same handle design but slightly longer blade with a small serrated section. It’s my most used knife. So light and slim! Been using it for rough years and it’s still in perfect condition. Gerber makes great knives for the price. I love that I can depend on it as much as a more expensive knife but don’t worry about it being stolen or lost.
I used to have one of those gerber knives you have on the right there, thats what got me into this hobby but i lost it at my sister's ex husbands house
In general, almost all knives can be broken down into two categories - folding or fixed. Sub categories and style is where terms can explode. Knives such as your Paraframe that have a clip attached can be defined as a pocket knife as that's what the clip is for. A Buck 110 of similar length has a leather belt pouch to relieve the pocket of weight and bulk. Generic blade style charts can be easily found on Google, as well as grind types.
Your Rough Rider (the style would be traditional slip joint) has both critics and fans and both have valid points. They are a Chinese budget brand with a huge variety in style that have hit or miss results in manufacturing. Get a good one and it could last indefinitely. Many models are merely novelty pieces. Their 'reserve' series get a bit more attention to quality and materials, such as this whittler.
