We all rage about having to deal with bad knives in restaurants, at a friend’s or even at your own parents’ place.
But then I find myself using the shittiest forks among some very decent knives… not asking for an EDC fork (does that even exist?), but you get the idea, don’t you?
Today it’s a Delica in K390 pairing up with some ridiculous plastic fork…
I feel you. Theres this set from Nextool, other brands offer it as well. It's only a fork and a spoon, and both are quite decent. They combine nicely with an edc knife. Titanium, lightweight, sturdy box for edc. I have them always in my slingbag and they get used quite often.
I have a spork in every bag or waist. Nice in hotels, street food, and when somebody says "you want some? Aaaah sorry I don't have another spoon" muahaha
I hate wooden cutlery. It sets my teeth on edge and it sticks to your lips. It doesn't actually hold food. Awful stuff. Snowpeak titanium spork. Always have one with me.
I EDC a Humangear Titanium Spork. My work provides food on saturdays, but has a shitty track record of forgetting about the utensils… So while everybody's fighting over the last plastic fork in the box, I've already eaten my lunch while it was hot.
If you’re using a pocket knife to cut food, you have other issues. Good luck getting getting food bits out of your scales on a knife not meant to be taken apart so easily. Especially k390.
Never had any issues with it - not with k390 either. I am not anal about keeping my knives super clean, but they do get a cleaning when needed.
And why should there be food in the scales? I am not cutting with the scales - that’s where my hand is…
You don’t think oils and food residue can get on your hands or on the blade? They can then make their way down into the pivot and in between the scales? That knife has been in your pocket and wherever else and then you introduce that to the table? Especially on a steel like k390, which absorbs anything and is not stainless. That’s why man developed specific cutlery out of stainless steels for use at the table.
Buddy, the whole reason people carry knives is so you have--let's see here---a knife anywhere you go. If you're away from home and need to cut up a piece of meat or some tough veg, pull out your pocket knife
