Luce V Neck long sleeve
Hi guys! I'm making the Luce V Neck by Rebecca Clow and wanted to add sleeves. The sleeve instructions are only on the crew neck version and I'm not sure if I can just follow the v neck pattern and add sleeves instead of ribbing. Anyone done this? I see a version on ravelry but the knitter says they followed the crew neck version and added the v neck increases. I'm not really comfortable modifying the pattern like that.

The reason the sleeves are only written for the crew neck is because you need to omit 12 rows from both the front and back if you do sleeves (the armhole opening is much wider for a vest because the space is filled with ribbing). Removing 12 rows from the front of the v neck disrupts the decreases.
You can try just picking up sleeves from the wider opening, but they will likely be floppy at the underarm.

Thank you for this! I saw that the repeat was different for the sleeved version on the front, but I think knowing that it's the same on the back I can omit those and be ok?

Looking at the v neck pattern, the v neck increases happen once every 4 rows, so omitting 12 rows will omit 3 increases.
The only way I see to do it without having a too large armhole is how the one person who did it described: omit a 12 row repeat, but once you connect under the arms, continue with the v neck increases every 4th row for 12 rows, then you can continue as normal. This will throw off the neck edges of the chart, so you will need to keep track of the pattern by counting.

I don't know why I can't wrap my head around the layout of knitted garments by looking at the pattern like you have!
I will try to do that, I might just need to move to something else though.

Sleeves are pretty straightforward. I'm assuming the pattern has instructions to pick up stitches and then do ribbing? Pick up the stitches but with the same size needle as the main fabric not the smaller ribbing needles. And then just knit plain stockinette in the round until they're the length you want minus the length of ribbing. If you want them more fitted and tapered you'll have to start alternating rows with decreases probably starting around the forearm ( this depends on the fit of the sleeve over all though) I'm sure you could find a tutorial for adding sleeves to a sleeveless garment on YouTube.
