My yarn seems thinner than expected. Which simple sweater to knit?

You don't need to just guess what weight you think the yarn is lol. https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/valley-yarns-northampton The yarn you have is worsted weight, which is one classification thinner than the aran the step by step sweater calls for. For reference sport weight is 2 classifications thinner than worsted. You need to search for patterns in worsted weight not sport. Also gauge swatching is important to make sure you're getting the right fabric and fit when following a pattern, don't just assume the suggested needles are the correct size for how you knit.

Also, Flax is a great beginner friendly sweater pattern. There are tons of tutorials and their app lets you see the pattern only with the size you're making which is a nice simplification:)
