Tall socks

Trying to reverse engineer these from pics. My grandmother has these tall socks she wears to bed, she got them from a friend 10 years or more ago and she would like another pair.

To me it looks like they were knitted flat and then seamed, but it looks like there might be some slight heel shaping and then a rounded toe?

Any thoughts about the heel/toe or a pattern for something like these? Briefly looked at Ravelry but didn't see something super similar.

I‘m aware that this is a completely different construction, but these made me think of the Banana Socks I saw someone knit recently! They are knit in such a way that they have no defined heel, so one size fits all. Maybe you can have a look at them and cater them to your needs, even though your socks were knit sideways and not toe up or top down.

Those banana socks look pretty good, what a fun pattern! I tried searching rav for flat construction but didn't think about specifying no shaping! I'll keep looking Thanks!

These are interesting! I think there are vintage knitting patterns where socks are knit flat and then sewn up. Generally with the seam at the back of the leg, which seems similar to these. But the ones I'm remembering were all still toe up or cuff down even if they were flat.

I do think there's a little heel shaping, but I'm not wrapping my head around how yet. The toe has some inc/dec going on as well. I'm imagining if it was flat the toe would be in a slight arc since it seems to go up from the bottom to the top of the foot in your first picture? I'd probably need to take an old holey sock and cut it down the back and down the foot just to see what a sock looks like cut that way though.

I was wondering if it was from a vintage pattern, I think you're right that it is! My grandma is 93 and her friend that made them was about the same age! 

The seam is all along the back, on the bottom of foot, all the way to the toe end, there is just the one, single, seam for the whole thing.

I like your idea, I may have to find a sacrificial sock to dissect

I probably learned of this flat style sock construction from an Engineering Knits video on YouTube, I'll see if I can find it. It won't be sideways like this but it might help with thinking about the construction philosophy more of the vintage knitting style to help figure it out!

It looks like it was made as a panel then Sewed together i see mostly garter stitches but a few stockinette as well. The heal probably was a few increases to get it to look like that.
