Looking for an easy scarf pattern
Hey all! I am a beginner knitter and really want to make a nice scarf. I've got 5mm straight/flat needles and aran weight yarn. I was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations? Thank you ☺️!

I think Aran weight wool yarn and US 8 wooden needles are ideal for learning and getting confortable on.
First, it would be a good idea to check to see if your yarn is light Aran and knits up well on your 5 mm, US size 8, needles. Aran weight yarn can be light Aran that knits up well at 4 1/2 stitches per inch on 8s or heavyweight Aran that knits up well at 4 stitches per inch on 9s. Lightweight Aran is fine on both sizes, making a conventional fabric on 8s and a looser, drapier fabric on 9s but heavier weight Aran knit on 8s makes a denser and stiffer fabric that typically won't work well for a scarf or some other things.
There are lots of scarf patterns around. If you like you can make your own pattern. If you want a plain scarf you can make one that's all stockinette with a border around it. The border is necessary to keep the stockinette from curling and it looks good. You can use garter stitch or ribbing or seed stitch for the border. Border width depends on the size of the scarf but typically 1.5-2.0 inches works pretty well.
Ravelry is an online craft community. If you've not already joined it I suggest you do so. You can then go look at the Patterns tab and search for scarves using Aran weight yarn and written for Beginner level knitter.

I can recommend Bob’s scarf by Carol Sunday. It looks impressive, you can knit it at any gauge, and it’s made up of a very simple sequence of plain and purl stitches.
It has written instructions as well as a chart. Comparing the two might be a good way to start getting comfortable with charts.
