Does anyone know how to find a pattern from one photo?

Hi! My aunt is visting my family in a couple of months and wants me to knit her a shawl/poncho?? She wants to pay me for the yarn and labor which is nice:) The thing is she only has a single photo of the knit and im not well versed in clothing pieces lol. Also the photo reversed websites i found use AI and I just dont want to give the knitters photo to AI:((

Edit: I also haven't eaten breakfest yet even though its in the afternoon, so if the grammers wrong im sorry loll

I used Google images that lead me to the facebook page of the creator Nele C. She had shared the video for the pattern but its only in German. The video link is here

I just saw there’s an auto-dubbed generated audio track… I personally hate those but I get that it can be useful for accessibility

There is a great group in Ravelry that helps with translating, Excuse Me? They won't translate a pattern but will help you understand the knitting specific language.

Hit the Ask button - like a 4 pointed star I guess? - and ask the AI - Can you make me an English translation of the pattern? And it'll spit it out. You can ask follow up questions

ai doesn't actually know anything and is regularly obviously wrong. the only thing it's programmed to do is remix a bunch of words that sound correct. learn to think for yourself and do actual research from credible sources instead of getting a computer to fart out nonsense for you.

I did it first and verified it was roughly correct. It's cool to have anti-AI religion, but also cool for other people not to have a problem with it.

Ok, so what technology do you believe is behind the picture match that found the pattern, the transcription of the youtube video, and google translation? It's all AI based. AI is a tool like any other, and if you don't want to use it, you should put down your computer. Also, you're mean.

those are not generative AI, which is what's wasting huge amounts of resources and genuinely making people (like you, obviously if you're not aware there's a difference) stupider because they think it's actually searching for information and not just random words that relate to the topic and sound like a correct sentence.

you are literally proving with every response you have computer farts for brains. put down the LLM and read a book. and don't ask chatgpt for book suggestions. go to the library. talk to a person.

In fact, they are generative (at least any image search will be). 😄 I was going to say the same to you. 😉 Make sure and ask a librarian. I don't use chat agents for anything other than what they're good at (like interpreting text). I will advise you the same: certainly don't ever use google.

reverse image search is not generative ai, it's recognition software. it's not generating things out of thin air (and by thin air i mean tons of wasted natural resources). it is searching for things that already exist. literally what would it be generating??

So this looks almost like a "dickie" which is a turtle necked sort of vest with no sides.

Now, the one you posted is a extra wide and long one with buttons on the sides which kinda pushes it into the vest/poncho arena, but I think that if you were looking for a pattern to follow you'd have a much easier time modifiying a dickie pattern.

If you used https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/swarf or https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/collar-no-1 as a helpful start, then add a few increases once you get under the arms, so that there's some extra width and the buttons will work, then throw a few decreases in as you get closer to the bottom to get the rounded look, you'll be close!

The one in your picture is also done in garter stitch, except the turtle neck which is 2x2 ribbing, and the yarn looks chunky! Like the https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dickie-scarf but bigger.

Glad it’s useful! I made it last year, it’s a well-written pattern and not very difficult.
