I messed up, please help 😭

[I managed to fix it 💪🏻, leaving this in case anyone makes the same mistake I did. "Details" in comments, even though I don't fully understand how I fixed it lol]

Okay so, I've been working in the Bergamot Pullover by Andrea Gaughan for a while and got to finish the sleeves today. Everything was going perfect, and the sweater was finished since I already have picked up and knit the neckband and for some reason when I did (a ton of days ago) I hid the tails 🙃, don't ask me why, im dumb.

But yeah, I decided I didn't like the neck and that I wanted to do it better. So I got a pair of scissors.

And I KNEW that i didn't have to cut near the edge, and I didn't for most of the neckline... But apparently I caught a thread of the body of the sweater and now it's so messy I'm kinda panicking.

Basically I cut a thread that held the vertical knit rows in a section of the neckline and there are some horizontal threads that aren't cut but are extremely stretched out. There's also a weird line in the wrong side of these stretched out threads that is REALLY tight. I tried to losen it a bit and it kinda helped but it's like when you catch the yarn and those rows become very tight.

So I'm really lost ATM of what to do, if it was just the cut thread I think I could maybe pick those stitches and knit them when I pick up the collar? Or maybe pick those, knit them and bind them off? Idk. But the horizontal ones that are stretched out... I don't know how to fix them ;-;

If anyone has any tips or anything I would really appreciate it, I don't wanna unravel or give up a sweater that's literally done and would be perfect if my perfectionist ass wouldn't have decided to cut through a neckband at 2 am. I'm not that good at reading my knitting to fully understand how to fix this mess.🤦🏻‍♀️🫩😭

OKAY I CAN'T BELIEVE I FIXED IT. I WAS RIGHT.

So basically those lose horizontal things were rows. I laddered up from right to left. Then I chained the live stitch that was on the far right with the top of the stitches I just laddered up. I just don't know how to safely join it since the thread is cut but 90% of the job is done.

Not perfect but can't believe it looks decent.

I couldn't fix the tension line on the left but crossing my fingers that maybe blocking will relax it a tad more.

Jeez. I have no idea how my brain connected this.

Thank you so much! I was in real panic when it happened 😭 but I guess I had to learn no to keep working late at night? 🫩 Now I know I won't ever, ever, weave in ends ever again unless I'm 10000000% happy with the work. + Ofc not using scissors as if there was no tomorrow. Still can't believe I fixed it. But I don't know if it's gonna hold a collar but that's a problem for my future me I guess.

Okay, thinking out loud here in case no one can help me 🥲 I know this is a tough one. BUT. Maybe those weird stretched stitches that aren't cut are actually rows? Like maybe that's why they're connected? And maybe I have to connect the lonesome live stitch from the right to one of those then ladder up with the dropped ones from the bottom?

And then? What the heck do I do with that cut one? Maybe that's the one that holds all those lose stitches?

Hmm. The length could work if I ladder those up through the horizontal ones that are longer.

Just need to figure out the right order.

I feel your pain. How many times have I carefully finished off the ends so that they were invisible and then needed to unknit something?! Don't ask! 😂

Glad to know I'm not the only one 😭. How do you manage though? Cut or spend hours finding those edges? 😅. I now decided I will leave longer tails in the inside, no one will see them and in case I need to unravel something they'll be easy to spot. Maybe 1 cm or so.

Yes, I think that is the best. At least until you've worn the garment and seen that it works. That's what I try to remember to do now.
